Preselling techniques & page structure

I wrote something to Angelita about preselling in this same forum, so you may want to read that thread as well.

But bottom line, the most effective preselling is about TRUST. It's about AUTHORITY. EXPERTISE.

Highlighting, underlining and bullet points might send off the wrong signal to your readers. If it looks and sounds like a sales letter, you've gone from preselling to SELLING.

Big difference.

To me, preselling is about getting them in the mood and mindset to buy.

Now, it depends upon the context of your blog post, or indeed any presell message. Most people don't want to read a sales pitch until they're thinking of buying. So why PITCH them when they're not ready for it?

I prefer to create presell messages that educate, inform and entertain the reader, based on points that will eventually lead them to consider buying the product.

For example, if I wanted to presell my split testing software, for starters I could write an article, "3 Reasons Why Every Affiliate Marketer Should Be Split Testing", and occasionally refer to my product in a passing manner, discussing how easy it is to split test using it.

No hard sell is needed... the article is achieving two things... (a) raising awareness of split testing and why they should be doing it, (b) raising awareness of my split testing software without PITCHING it.

The sales letter does the pitching. The article does the preselling.

Of course, this is just a tiny fraction of what true preselling is all about, but I hope what I've said here gives you more ideas to think about.
