How much do you charge for writing video script?

I'm curious what other people are charging for video script. I typically do higher end articles and have written a few ebooks for clients as well, but I have one client who has me do a lot of video scripts for a product they are launching.

It seems we are always having to haggle a little on price here, and I suspect that wouldn't be the case if I felt I knew the worth on my work on this job (I do feel that for once I am way undercharging...).

The client does provide rough outlines and research for the videos and then goes over them afterwards and gives comments. I know that it seems unprofessional that a client would need to go over a professional writer's work, but this is the only client who ever redrafts my stuff.

He is just very particular about many things, so I just have been going with it. It's not ideal for me, but I have a long-term relationship with this client and at this point am trying to make it work.

By the way, I am NOT a copywriter, so this is a bit out of my league to being with. What are your thoughts?

It's a selling script. So regular copywriting fees apply -- anywhere from $500 -- $2K and up. It's all about the value you create PRIOR to the fee negotiation.

Once you're negotiating around article writer level, you've anchored your range. It's not going to change unless the client feels you've changed substantially. And inflated ego doesn't count.

First, find out what your work is worth. If you upped sales X% for a $Y product, do the math and come up with a hard, credible, figure. (And do please notice no-where did I ask for an in depth explanation about why you can't. Just do it.)

Next, realize a script isn't just words on the page. You're talking about visual thinking, and when the issue is sales, you're talking about creative visual demos.

It's one thing (at one price point) to have the owner recite a script like they're verging on comatose. Quite another (higher price point) when you can coax a fever pitch performance out of the owner, or have a few "Pitch Men" who can deliver the lines in a way that sells.
