Right now, I'd have to say I love Clayton Makepeace's Quickstart Copywriting System (Quick Start | The Total Package)

I've also heard John Carlton's "Kickass Copywriting Secrets of A Marketing Rebel" (John Carlton - Marketing Rebel - Operation MoneySuck Salesmanship Essentials) is very good. It's on my "To-Buy" list.

      All the best,

      Angel

Thought I'd comment: I read this post before and decided to pick up the course.

This is a severely underrated course. It is really quite fantastic and very thorough.

You can find it on CDROM from a guy who bought the rights to it. Ebay for less than $20. Great stuff, for those who don't want to buy the more expensive, hardcopy (I prefer it, though).

      All the best,

      Angel

Before starting a course, concentrate on perfecting your skills as a writer. It'll save you time (and make you more money) in the longer term.

I've always believed that great copy should be grammatically perfect although, on occasion, it's perfectly acceptable to break some of the more stringent rules. If I read sales copy that doesn't flow or contains basic grammatical errors, I automatically assume the product I might want to buy will be flawed as well.

For a newbie, there are years of learning and value available for free before you'd get anything additional out of a high-ticket course.

If you're looking to get started cheap-but-not-necessarily-free, join the War Room. Off the top of my head, I can think of at least two excellent guides being offered free to members over there that would get you going in the right direction in a hurry.

I am currently doing a mentorship under Paul Hancox which you can find here:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...heres-how.html

Paul is a fantastic teacher and the course is broken up into modules which makes it fun to learn.

    Hey,

I'd recommend both Carlton's Kick Ass
course and his freelance one too, but
probably for different stages in your
    career.

I'd recommend his Simple Writing System
too, but that's because I'm one of his
    tutors

    Hope that helps.

Any recommendation I make would be totally biased.
If you are a War Room Member then you can see a
course I offer for FREE there so you can decide
if I know what I'm doing or talking about.

John Carlton's Kick Ass Copywriting Secrets of A Marketing Rebel is a must and the simple writing system is very good as well. I was at the original seminar and have gone over the recordings several times. What's good about the dvd's are that you see how us participants in the audience get feedback right away.
That's my other recommendation, get as much material where top copywriters critique salescopy or comments on their own. Carlton has done that on many products, I think David Raybould has something where he goes over two of his clickbank gangbusters, and I'm not really uptodate with what's on the market right now.
And of course getting into the simple writing system coaching club if it reopens allows you to get your own copy critiqued, which is extremely valuable.

I also like most of Dan Kennedy's stuff. His sales letter book is good for reference and easy step by step ideas.

And if your really ambitious, start writing out top performing sales copy by hand (typing will also work). Now that's how you can get really good... and it's something very few are ready to do, I did that myself (more than a 1000 pages during the years) and I HIGHLY recommend it (works for writing out slides in sales video's and record them yourself, I used to do that with sales letters and listen to them on my mp3 player (pre ipod!).

And lastly, you'll only write as good copy as your mindset and beliefs will "allow you" and same thing with your mental state and your energy, so pay attention to that as well before sitting down to write.

    Hope that helps

    Michael

Ps. And remember that whatever time or money you spend on learning copy or even hiring a good copywriter is a very good investment, and probably one of the best you can do in your business.

I also want to comment that... while not a course... Dan Kennedy's "Look Over My Shoulder" newsletter is EXTREMELY good.

In LOS, he shows you letters he's working on, the psychology behind everything that goes into the letter, etc. Very good, pro-level material. I learned a lot from devouring my mentor's 2 years' worth of issues.

At only $98 or so a month, you really can't beat the price. Plus you get the Guerilla Marketing Newsletter and a few others.

      Find out more at Petetheprinter.com.

The Ultimate Sales Letter is a great desk reference - this is the real stuff, though.
