I just started doing press releases, but am running into a problem when registering.

When your registering an account it says "Please add your company details in order to submit press releases", your registering a "press writing company's information" right

So, Yeah I can make up a company name, but a lot of the sites have a mandatory website url field. I don't have a website related to this supposed company, and I can not put my blog or site I am promoting or trying to drive traffic to, cause the company is supposed to be separate and non-biased towards the sites it is writing about, no?

Can someone help me with this please? I am probably missing the obvious solution here.

The obvios part you are missing is, you have no business submitting BS press releases. Its noise like that which obscures real news. If you are pimping aff products on a fake review blog, the best you can do is a press release when you post a new fake review.

Yeah, ok, thanks for the rant.

I know it's no excuse, but I an new to this. I read something about using press releases for some marketing and wanted to try it. I just misunderstood what I was supposed to do regarding writing from a third person point of view. But, and no thanks to you, I got the help needed from someone else.

It is a legit blog informing people of a real subject of concern. It does have a product on the blog that I "suggest", not hard sell, and it is on separate page, not on home page where posts are. The same for for my press release, it was to inform people of a truth, and there is a simple url in the contact info going to blog, no hard selling what so ever.

I do not post fake crap or mislead others, I am in this to build a reputation and mail list, not a quick buck.

I've submitted a few to prlog.org. Don't know what i put for company lol. Links are always just URLs without anchors -- bit annoying but still a link. Prefer article submissions tbh

    Bruce makes a good point.

    Ask yourself this...

Would your local newspaper publish that as a story?

Blogs are created every day... unless there's a reason yours is newsworthy, you're probably wasting everyone's time.

    Food for thought.

The underlying problem is that internet marketers have been
taught to treat press releases as little more than yet another
$5 outsourced article dump where they can stuff their keywords
    and a backlink.

This becomes evident when folks complain that a PR syndicator
only allows a URL instead of anchor text.

Here's the publicity boat... and there's you missing it.

Try thinking in terms of MEDIA instead of SEO.

Imagine a reporter or editor reading your auto-spun garbage
press release with no hook, no human interest, no VALUE to
the reader whatsoever... why on earth would anyone care?

    CLUE: They won't.

Now, imagine getting a phone call from a reporter who wants
to interview you and publish a story about your website in their
    weekly column.

Imagine that reporter's well-read column being published in
two dozen sister publications across the country simultaneously.

Imagine your local TV station picking up that story and sending
a camera crew out to shoot a package for the evening news,
which then becomes a featured video on their website.

That press release is suddenly worth a whole lot more than
    a PR6 backlink, isn't it?

Think you can't make that happen? YOU CAN...

But you need to set the stage properly from the get go.

You have to give the media what they need in order to get
from the media what you need.

    Quid pro quo.

HINT: What they need is something fascinating to their audience
    that's credible and newsworthy.

    Best,

    Brian

Ok, maybe I should show my press release to prove that I am not just trying to get a backlink or dump useless content for seo, neither of which is why I am doing this.

Here is my press release, Please note it is only the 2nd thing I have ever written, the other being an article:

Over 80% Of Dog Owners Have Been Misinformed While Training Their Dog - [company]

Traditional dog training classes are going the way of the dinosaur. Too many people are unsatisfied with the often temporary results that you get with traditional dog training. Learn why most dog trainers are unqualified to deal with most issues concerning dog behavior problems.

[Oct, 2010] "Stop wasting your money on traditional dog training methods" says [name], an up and coming expert in the field of dog psychology working with [company]. According to this expert and concerned dog owner, over 80% of dog trainers are not qualified to deal with the range of social issues that affect dogs.

[name] states that "Training a dog to do a trick or not to mess in the house is a lot different than trying to stop a dog from being aggressive, fearful or even listening to you, and obeying you. These are social issues that have not happened over night, and need to be properly addressed. Unfortunately most dog owners are not aware of this and told their dog is too aggressive or unmanageable by the so called dog trainers. This just makes the problem worse, as it will only progress to the point where most owners will just pass the problem onto someone else or go crazy trying to deal with it everyday."

[name] has a video blog and a active support system for those who are serious about learning dog psychology and properly attacking dog social issues. You can ind a range of free advice and tips on his blog like:

      - Why proper leash training is the #1 technique that can solve most issues
      - How to be the "Pack Leader" so your dog will always follow your every command
      - Why over 90% of aggression issues are not that serious and can be easily handled
      - How to stop excessive barking and actions like jumping on people
      - Why the kind of energy your sending when dealing with a problem is very important

It is our hope, as concerned dog owners and lovers ourselves, that people will start to realize the importance about dog psychology, and that it is the only successful and permanent way to deal with dog social issues.
