Voiceover for video help

Right, I've scripted the video for my sales page.

Because,
1. I haven't a fantastic voice
2. My accent is Northern Irish, and most of my customers will be in the States
I need someone to do my voice over.

Most of the videos I come across are done by men, but I'd like a female to do mine.

Can anyone suggest a female who does voiceovers, and is perhaps skilled in copywriting and internet marketing (so they are not ignorant of what I'm trying to do)?

$50 and premium quality - you won't find a better value.

I've used them many, many times.
      That's $50 for 30/60 seconds.

My video is probably 15 minutes!!

        Hi Melanie,

I'd love to do your voice over for you. I'm also a copywriter/editor - and a nutritionist, so I understand the health and wellness niche and internet marketing. I'd be happy to supply you with references. You need to go with a voice you like and someone who has a decent mic and is set up to record. I"m just getting started in professional voice over work, so I'd be happy to work something out with you price-wise, and will record a sample for you. (Don't hire anyone unless they've auditioned for you and sent you an Mp3 so you can check the quality of the recording and know what their voice sounds like.) -PM me, or contact me on Skype! - Vonalda

You're not just paying for the voice...

...you're paying for their selling ability.

People who can make emotional, impassioned speeches move product.

And those people don't work for minimum wage.

When I direct my clients to voice-over talent, it usually costs them between three and five thousand dollars... and it's worth every penny.

If you don't have the cash, I'd do it yourself, as Colm suggested.

Three and Five thousands dollars!!! Then they're being robbed. Good Voiceover talent doesn't have to cost anywhere near that. Think three to five hundred dollars for a 30-60 second read. Wanna know how I know? I used to book talent every day in a former life as a copywriter for the top Australian FM radio network. Every day. Sometimes we'd have three or four people a day doing reads. And I'm talking pros who'd get it down in one or two takes.

        Dietriffic,

I'm sure you have a lovely voice (with a lovely Irish lilt), to match your gorgeous photo.

        I use Fiverr.com for voiceovers.

The quality varies. Some gigs give a voice sample.

Best is to message them first to see if they are still doing it (gigs come and go, gigs are temporarily unavailable). Check how long they'll speak for, or how many words they'll read, and (if your particular) whether they do re-dos.

I tell them to re-read fluffed lines and I'll edit them out in my audio editing program. I don't want to ask too much of them for what they get paid.

Some gigs do only a minute, others up to 20 minutes. Others quote by number of words.

(You may need to purchase two or three Fivers from the same gig to cover 15 minutes.)

Check the feedback (unless the gig is new, in which case you can take a punt if you want to give someone their break.)

I've used two voiceover gigs on Fiverr so far. I've been satisfied with them. I'm sure when I start testing out more gigs, I'll find ones that will be superb, and others that will be mediocre.

When I first enquired about voiceovers a couple of years ago, I was disappointed with the high prices being quoted eg at voices.com, not to say you'll be paying for guaranteed quality.

But for $5, I'm ready to work with these hungry folks on Fiverr.

        Cheers,
        Max

There is computer software that reads aloud from a text file. The results are not as bad as they used to be. I'll have a look for it, not sure of the retail price but I'm sure there are demos available. I did see some good testimonials, gotta be a good sign.

    Dietriffic,
I hope you found someone for your video, if not I sent you a PM with my info in it. I am a voice over artist here on the forum. Whomever you decide to go with, as member V.M. said, don't hire anyone who hasn't auditioned in some way. You just want to be able to hear their voice, and the quality of the recording.

A lot of great stuff can be done with simple audio software on most computers, but knowing how to get great sound on your recording is what seperates the pros from the semi-pros. The mic used, the software, and audio processing all need to be good in order to get the best quality for your money. It's more than just plug your mic in and talk.

Nothing will make you and your product look more amateur, than a horrible sounding voice over (if you're using audio or video).

It looks like your project is a little bit longer than what you could get done on fiverr.com, but it's a good place to start to audition people. As in the pm, if you go to www.contentbyjeff.com you can check out my samples, and message me if you have any questions. Best of luck!

I think you should record yourself.

First, I imagine having an accent is a positive. I live in the U.S. but have a Scottish accent. Serves me well when meeting new people... even though most think it's an Irish accent!

Second, there's a video out right now - everyone agrees the voice over is terrible - but it's selling like crazy. It's a mega, mega, mega, mega blockbuster!

So I'd save your money. Record it yourself. If it bombs, then I'd bet it's because of the copy, not your voice.

If it does okay, then maybe try testing voice over talent.

    Colm

I don't think it really matters if you have an Irish accent even if your customers are American. As long as you convey the message you want to get across, in a clear easy to understand way, you'll be fine.

Many tend to be rather insecure about how they sound on audio, if that is the case, you could always put a voice sample up on here and we could tell how good ( or not) you sound.

If you need 15 minutes of time and can't afford it then you MUST do it yourself.

You can actually train your voice to do what you need. Take some time and study some of the great infomercial greats like Billy Mays and listen to what they do to make their pitch much more appealing to listen to.

Then take some test runs, if you need get some opinions on what you've done, and have maybe most importantly have FUN with it

    Best of Luck,

    Justin
