      Just the same))

But it's really cool, he's talking of attracting attention and just showing how to attract it with the headline.

Yet i'll show it to my programmer colleagues who think internet market is nothing, just surfing the internet all day) Let them envy the compatibility of sex/drugs and Internet marketing)

    Hi James

Headlines are pretty important but not so much for web copy, you're offer is what rivets the prospect more.

      I respectfully disagree.

Ad copy has been around much longer than the Internet. Sales pages have always relied on good headline writing and the Internet will not change that. It doesn't matter if your sales page appears in a magazine, on a billboard, or on a wordpress site... the headline gets you noticed and guides their eyes towards your copy.

        That's very true.

I believe the offer is what ultimately conveys value to your prospect, not the headline. That is you're offering something that will return much more value than the amount it will cost your prospect.

This is why I believe the offer trumps any of the best headlines in ad copy.

I see your point though, because I probably wouldn't have clicked in this thread if it wasn't for the blatantly obscure headline.

Without the offer, can we really rely on the headline to ultimately influence the prospect take action?

I didn't watch the video because I never watch "blind" videos. But since you actually say "this has nothing to do with sex or drugs"...

I'd be far more impressed if you had somehow related the topics of sex and drugs to internet marketing in a meaningful way! Using "attention-getting" words in a headline and then not delivering on the implied promise is just annoying, not to mention dishonest. No doubt your video was very informative, but don't lie to me in a headline if you expect me to take you seriously.

The thing is I dont think copywriters, experienced copywriters (not that you arent, I am not assuming anything) dont like to be given "reality checks" on simple things.

        They know them already.

Was the video headline a good way to get attention? Yep. End of story. Not every single piece of advice, tip or example on here has to encompass every single aspect of copy or marketing.

I did go to your profile, after reading such an obvious attempt at "fake it to make it" post I had to... and if anyone here wants a good laugh they will too.

Step 1) First of all click to read all of this guys posts.

Step 2) Read them all and laugh/cringe accordingly.

Not at the content, he links to some good stuff, but at his tone!

            "Get it. Got it. Good."

Thats my favorite of what he writes.

See in your head you think we are all reading in awe, but really we are all going a little red with embarrassment.

I look forward to reading all your future posts. The internet can be a cold dark and lonely place sometimes, and well, to have a clown around really does lighten the mood.

Keep up the screen shots buddy! And by they way, in taking the screen shot of who visited your profile, ... well lets just say in all the time I have been a member, I never once looked at that thing, do you really need that reassurance?

That site is not more than 48 hours old. What I plan to do is have a website where I will offer a lot of advice and help for people trying to make a quick sales letter that works. I'm not a world class copywriter and up until this point I have no work, I've been just studying some of the best work in copyrighting and have yet to implement myself. I do plan to put out offers once I start product creation but I haven't even really found my target audience yet. I will be more than happy to have my copy reviewed by you, when I get to that point. I know i'm not great at copywriting I'm just surfing and trying to create discussion here? I hope this isn't something that is frowned upon.

No, giving advice is not "frowned upon", but you make claims that you can't really back up with experience.

    Example.

Headlines are pretty important but not so much for web copy, you're offer is what rivets the prospect more.
The headline is probably the most important part of the sales letter, and as Brian and put it, it gets your prospects attention to the first line.

And if you've read any decent copy writing book it'll tell you the same thing. Sensationalism in your headline cuts through the noise of your prospects day and gets your offer read.

As my current coach, Ray L Edwards says "Attention is the currency of the internet" or something along those lines lol.

If you don't grab attention you can kiss your sales goodbye.

I've seen a few posts of yours in other threads and you seem to be stirring up other excellent writers too. You can discuss copy but don't advise on other peoples copy when you don't know what you're talking about.

I can't base what i'm saying off of other peoples success that has been taught to me? I think that's crazy, actually.

To each their own, I still stand by saying the offer is more important than the headline. I'm not saying have a generic headline, I'm just saying focus more on the offer.

I am entitled to my own opinion Dean, this is public domain? Or am I missing something?

It is a critical mistake to use a misleading headline. Your prospect immediately feels deceived. Besides, getting attention isn't the goal. Getting the attention of viable prospects is the goal.

      No you silly goose.

Bait and switch: denoting a deceptive method of selling, by whichcustomers, attracted to a store by sale items, are told either that the advertised bargain item is out of stock or is inferior to a higher-priced itemthat is available.

You don't have to "BUY" anything to be "baited and switched".

As evidenced by YOU OWN FREAKING EXAMPLE of "SEX" above.

You may have read Gary Halbert's letter, I doubt if any of it sunk in.

Article headlines matching the body copy...

That comes under normal conscience... common sense... basic decency to not waste other people's time... you know. Moral stuff... something I doubt a forum cocaine peddler as yourself would care two cents about.

I think there is a caution here. You have to know your audience. Shock appeal is not always appealing, nor is it always appropriate. A daycare advertising open enrollment shouldnt use a headline that screams SEX in 102 pt font, any reasonble parent would not send their child there. This may sound very . . .duh-ish, common sense, but my example is an extreme version of the issue.
