How To Become A Copywriter - Video

Hey WF,

I made this video for my YT channel and thought I would get the feedback from the community as well.

It briefly details a basic outline of how to become a copywriter.

Would appreciate if you took a look and let me know what you thought.

Cheers.

-Konstantin.

      But their copy wouldn't.

        You never know!

You don't have to be a word class copywriter to write good copy, we're not writing books, we're selling things.

You just have to reach the highest level criteria of your prospect matched with an irresistible offer.

If you can teach someone to do that, you can make things happen really fast!

I'm actually posting one of the most valuable things I've been taught in copywriting to my blog right now, you'll surely not want to miss out on it if you're learning to be effective in the field.

          Hey Ross,

You can teach someone pretty much the basic understanding of what copywriting is in 24 hours. That's easy.

          "Salesmanship-in-print" or "Multiplied salesmanship."

But for them to become a copywriter actually able to sell?

          Not likely.

Now, if they've been a SALESMAN for a long time... Sure, maybe.

The 10,000 Hour rule applies here, my friend.

Truth is, no book, course, or seminar can make you a great copywriter in a single 24 hr span. It can educate you, and it can prepare you. But the truth is, you'll have to get your teeth kicked in a few times.

Listen, I read just about every decent book on writing copy, read pretty much the "highest" recommend books on selling, studied courses, listened to audios, and even have a friend who was mentoring me very closely for a while.

Couldn't bypass the time to learn.

          Books smarts are
awesome. Knowing the theory is awesome.

But it just won't cut it. You'll have to actually write, write, write, and write a lot.

So, you're half-right. You're not trying to write the Great American Novel. But you're selling, and selling ain't easy, either, if you've only had 24 hrs to learn it.

By the way, I'm not saying you're "no good' until you've written copy for an actual client. But I think you won't really develop confidence until you've seen some sort of result for your effort. However, unless you can copy 100 swipes in a single day and then write yourself 2-3 spec assignments in that same time...

I think you get what I'm saying.

Nice post on your blog, by the way. I think you should go into a little more detail explaining that process, for your readers.

          Best,

          Angel

The bad guitar music was a little distracting.

This is not a 'how to' in any way so I don't like it. You just
        say the obvious.

If I wanted to start a snow plow business I would need the
equipment, learn how to use it and get some clients. Same thing
        in any business.

I did not get any 'how' from the video. Toss in at least a few crumbs
        to-

        A. Make you seem like you know what you're talking about and...

        B. Lure me into learning more from you

I would never go watch any of your other videos because I did not
get anything but "get out there and start".

        I feel deceived

You make some valid points, but the 4 minutes you invested were well spent if you learned the one lesson you mention. Most people fail simply because they do not get out there and start.

I think all copy writing can be broken down into 3 simple principles:

          1. Find a need.
          2. Clearly state how your product or service can meet that need.
          3. Ask people to buy now.

But even this is lost if people don't get out there and start. Once you start you can begin measuring success and then improve the copy as needed.

The 'get off your ass' statement is one that can't be taught in a 6 minute
video that breezes by the subject. So it fails there also.

Your 'lesson' here is FAR better than what was in the video.

The lesson I got from the video is to use hype to sell crap.

Find me one piece of 'how to' in the entire video. Change the title
and I'm fine with it. Perhaps- Become a Copywriter: The Primer

Might be a bit of false advertising then. Like Mike said, they probably wouldn't be a very good copywriter.

Yes, you could teach someone how to write a basic salesletter in less than 24 hours but you couldn't teach them every variation of marketing (i.e. offline, online, video, radio, TV, etc.) that copywriters are frequently asked to write. For example, I recently found out that a 30 second radio ad is 150-160 words (on average) which requires a pretty different (and shorter) selling approach than say a long copy salesletter.

That's also not factoring in their own marketing or salesmanship skills. If they don't have those, then it's definitely a longer learning curve to be a successful copywriter.

They'll have a harder time getting clients for their business. They'll have a harder time helping their clients get their product positioned optimally as well.

      My 3 cents,

      Mike

LOL I wouldn't recommend anyone to make a book about how to become a copywriter in 24hrs, I was sort of just poking fun at OPs Title.

If anything you could make a book on how to create a sales ad in 24hrs.

I think that would be received pretty well.

Thanks angel, I appreciate your posts on here. I am just over zealous about copywriting and don't want to make it sound so complicated for the newbies around here.

Because it doesn't have to be.

I know Rome wasn't built in a day and neither are the best copywriters.

But I also know people can see results with a good system to model.

    Good luck to everyone.

P.S. Angel, thanks for reading my blog, I will go further into detail with it in the next few days.

    All the best

I admire that you took action and created this that's more than 96% of others do.
What's your goal with this? The problem is that you make it sound like way too much work and you'll lose 90% of your viewers.
We all know that people want results with little or no work as impossible as that seems to the logical ones.
I would change that background music, it's elevator music with no energy.
