Am I the only one who can't stand these type of subject lines?
Can they possible be effective?

"You've just been paid"

"Where Do I Send The Check?"


I feel deceived and tricked and would never consider the person's real offer.

Does open rates translate to conversions for this? Steven Johnson what say you? you sent it to me this morning.....

    I'll delete them immediately. In fact, that's what I usually do I scanned my emails in the morning, with a finger on the DEL button.

    If I am free, I'll open up that email, scan the content for "Unsubscribe" link...

    It's just plain cheating for me too.

    But on the other end.... If these people have been using it constantly, could it be that it is really effective in getting a high click-thru rate, and sales?

    Something to think about...

      Opened, sure...

      Sales? Not likely.

      You may get a few here and there, but I think most people will have the same feelings as Vincenzo has mentioned.

      I would even go as far as to say that even if someone ended up being interested in the offer, a good portion may refrain from buying just out of principle.

      Personally, I don't even bother to open them. If I do, it's to click unsubscribe.

      This actually makes things even worse for those naive (somehow) to fall for this sort of ploy.

      Because, in my opinion, if they are receiving e-mails like this from marketers they respect...they could become conditioned to thinking that all of these types of e-mails are safe.

      Until one day, some random spam ends up in their inbox. They get "click happy" and suddenly find their computer infected.

      But again, if someone were naive enough to fall for it at all, there's probably no hope either way.

      Still, no need encourage it.

      The only time I would ever see using "Re:" as appropriate, is if it is an e-mail in reference to something you've already sent. Most likely using the previous e-mail's subject line.

      Just my opinion...

    You would be hard pressed to find a type of header more likely to get you relegated to the spam folder over at Oxbloom central.

    Honest-to-God content rich email newsletters are rarer than unicorns.

      I'd say the very best email newsletters I've gotten are by Frederic Patenaude, who works in the health niche. His subject lines are always intriguing. He has them set up to cycle endlessly, I think. So I have gotten the same messages over and over and over. But I still read them each time, all the way through, they are that good! Highly recommended.

      Edit:
      It is his "make a living in the natural health movement" IM newsletter that I enjoy. I have never partook of his raw-diet newsletter. I imagine it's as good, if you belong to that niche.
