Hello warriors,

I would like to know your feedback on Content Developer Jobs in Media/Journalism Industry. I mean what would be its future scope, both in terms of job growth and financial growth??

Any detailed suggestions/ideas in this regard will be most welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Well, aside from the issue copywriting is different from developing content, most media will employ journalists to write.

The word content seems to foster the very worst practices. Content implies no skill, no level of quality. All content need do is fill a container.

So, job and financial growth is less than zero. People will pay pennies, and that's only until they can pay a fraction of a cent.

With copy, how you position your offering is important. My suggestion is to get out of the content developer industry and to position what you do against content development.

Copywriting isn't th only field to do this. Information designers and information architects can command premium pricing. They don't just develop content, but content strategy.

Content developers have the perception of glorified typists, not writers. Content is seen as a commodity, to be had at the lowest price -- plus whatever the unscrupulous can get away with.

      Hey John,

      Thanks for that view.

But i guess, we also have some technical content development options thereafter, where in, some big companies recruit technical writers for the same?

I was looking for any such long term guidance.
Any more ideas or suggestions are most welcome.

      Thanks.

My suggestion is that you continue learning how to write before seeking a writing position. As a former engineering and product development director, I would never consider hiring you based on the "sample" above. "Thereafter, where in" (sic)?

I'm not trying to be discouraging but you have a long way to go. You have a degree in communications? What school so I will know where not to send my son.

Of course you're trying to be discouraging. Otherwise, why gratuitous and personal attack tagged onto the end?

Actually, you are right. This person needs to be discouraged from entering a field where they have no chance of success.

I am sincerely curious about the school though.

              Hey Bruce,
Thanks for your concern, but am from a reputed school and so, absolutely no issues there. I was just thinking of working on something that interests me now.
But realized, theres lot of uncertainty in this field.

Thanks all, for sharing your point of views.

Part of the reason why this is so are the following facts:

    1. there are writers who accept writing assignments at prices that are not at par with the level of their talent

    2. there are so-called writers (or should I say those who call themselves writers) who charge really low prices for really low quality content (no quality content?)

        Very good point.

Essentially, it all comes down to positioning. How you position yourself within the marketplace. And how much you value your time and expertise.

What specifically are you bringing to the table? What writing skills do you possess which are an asset to your target market Tanmi?

Precisely John's point. Comparing high quality copywriting with dirt cheap content is like comparing a Ferrari against a Yugo.
