That just started running over here in the UK, and as soon as I saw it, I was sat upright! A cool parody, and finally something a bit different.

On a side note, I heard someone define TV advertising and branding very succinctly the other day...

“TV Ads strive for one purpose. To get you to associate a particular emotion with their brand. They put you in the story, make you feel the emotion, then flash their logo in your face, before quickly dissapearing.”

I always wondered why branding was so important for most companies, and that kind of explains it better than ever.

It's not about remembering a logo. It's not even about the product. It's about the emotional association you come to have with that particular brand.

    Freaky.

I saw it in the commercial break an hour or so ago whilst watching all of those tv shows by Derren Brown on Channel 4.

As you know, here in the UK the commercial ads are very closely aligned with the content of the tv show currently showing. It's all about audience interest. Targeting your market for the best possible response.

The audience in this case was primed to receive the advertising message by Volvo.

Personally, as soon as I saw it, I commited it to memory - thought it was brilliant Nick. And a good lesson for other copywriters.

        Totally agree.

Didn't realize you were in the UK too. Derren was great wasn't he? Love his work!

I'm sorry but you can't make a station wagon sexy, even with a black leopard.

Nah. Best Volvo ad was from "Crazy People" (Dudley Moore) 1990 -

    "They're Boxy But They're Safe"

No way. The Jaguar ad from the same movie was definitely better.

Like the ad. Hate the car.

Definitely with Bruce on this one. It's hard to make a station wagon sexy.

Unfortunately the battery company EverReady forgot the logo bit...

Their "On and on and on..." series of ads, featuring a toy pink bunny banging a drum, which would walk across the screen during faux unrelated ads was a great success.

    For Duracell.

When they surveyed viewers they found they loved the ads, it gave a positive view of the company, and they believed the batteries lasted longer - they just presumed the ads were for EverReady's main rival!

    Just awesome.

Drum with a logo. Which bit was hard?

Haha, wow the vid was cool to me.
Though these days, it's this I see in tv.
A good Car with a good chick riding with a good man.
This creates some cool stuff and makes male and female want to buy it.
