How would you approach this???

Hi Guys,
I wondered if I might pick your brains.

Basically one of my customers is a scrap gold dealer (a good one, not the scammy lot you see on tv) and he wants me to try and drive some traffic to his site.

What he's going to do is to create a code that I can give to people, and when they type it in on his site, they'll get a better price than the gold prices advertised there (it's only an extra 1% since he's very close to the actual gold price already, but every little helps?).

Anyway, what would be a good way to promote this?

I was thinking that promoting it as a "hidden loophole" "secret method" type approach might work well, but I got the feeling that you guys will probably have a hatful of better ideas

Anyone got any great ideas I can run for this guy?

Many thanks!

Promoting something that will only give an extra 1% discount will do more harm than good for your reputation. That's like saying I have secret that will give you this course for $46 instead of $47, you'll go straight to my "a-hole" list, sorry.

Differentiation. What's unique about him or his business that would benefit the prospect?

You stated that he's not scammy which might be all the differentiation you need.

Comparisons are effective. Draw up an easy-to-understand chart that shows examples of what he pays for various items as opposed to what the scammers pay.

I agree on the "1% worse then nothing" but I would def suggest going back and trying to find another benefit you can use instead. Maybe throw in a freebie something?

Gotta say I'm confused about everyone poo pooing 1%.

1% is more than you'll get on the average CD these days...

1% is like someone saying I'll give you 10 bucks for every thousand dollars you have in the bank. Are you gonna say no to that?

1% price break on a car puts $300 in your pocket.

Entire fortunes are made and lost on less than a single percentage point.

That said... I wouldn't call it 1%. I'd come up with a way to make it a flat number for every amount brought in. I.E. - Bring me $10K of your old gold and I'll even put an extra $100 bill in your pocket.

Educate the visitor about gold. Most people selling thier gold don't realize that 14k is only 57.5% gold. Tell them about European karat marks (I've seen 18k white gold sold as low grade silver because is was marked .750.)

The more he is willing to educate the public and be transparent as to how the gold business works, the more they will trust him. Make them feel like insiders and partners.

      Thanks guys. for the replies.

I appreciate 1% doesn't sound like a lot (well it isn't, is it?), but then again like was pointed out - if you're sending in $1000 of gold - which isn't hard to do with gold prices - it's an extra $10 in your pocket.

I guess I probably missed the most important bit (D'oh!) - this deal will make him (almost certainly) the highest paying scrap gold company in the whole of the UK.

Maybe I should say something like : I've found a secret/backdoor/loophole code that if you type into this site will give you the best price in the UK for scrap gold.

Then explain that you can try it now on the site and see the price change.

Explain that I've sent gold, as have some other people I've told about it, and the higher price has been honoured.

Validate who they are (they've been voted no.1 by a major consumer driven organisation).

State that I don't know how long it'll last for, so best use it asap?

      Or maybe something like that?
