List building in the UK

In the US, we can head to our local library and access the complete ReferenceUSA database (same database as InfoUSA.com) for free.

Does anyone know if there's an equivalent free resource available in the UK?

    I checked the library. They didn't even know what I was talking about.

    Either it doesn't exist, or there's idiots working in the libraries here.

    My guess is both. That may sound harsh but, unfortunately, it seems to be true.

    I've just checked out ReferenceUSA to see what you were referring to.
    I'm not aware of anything equivalent here...

    The closest free thing I know of is
    ------------------------
    Business Directory for Electronics, Engineering, Plastics, Rubber, Chemical, Oil, Gas and Recruitment Services Applegate Directory Ltd
    ------------------------
    This is not as slick/functional as Reference USA but have a look...

    Using it to build a list would be a data entry chore...

    There are of course many paid/subscription business directories.
