AOL Has Some of The Best Copy Online

I'm constantly seeing good copy for their main page...

Here's one I just saw...

----------
"Britney Accused
Of 'Deadly' Tricks"

Mag Unveils Alarming Claims About
How She Got Skinny: Ugly Allegations
-----------

And of course "ugly allegations" is the clickable link

lol - that's good

I've been kind of brainwashed by some of the heavy hitters in copy that all big companies haven't a clue how to advertise... but of course, we know that's not true...as a lot of them end up writing for them!

CNN is another good channel to watch... yes, it's one of the most petty, negative cable news channels, but pay attention and you'll find a lot of good lessons and you may notice the origins of A LOT hot converting phrases - i.e - "Breaking News" or "Breaks Her Silence" ...etc ...etc

I think any big company who consistently measures their response will eventually figure it out.

Apple also has some killer copy.

This may be off the wall but has anyone seen apple's latest commercial with Steve Job's and Bill Gates hanging the christmas lights on the tree. I thought it was hilarous and shows Apple's out of the box thinking

Its hard to look at big company advertising as the kind you see here. Mostly becuase they aren't advertising to sell the product always right then and there. they just need to stick in your head enough to where when you go to the store or out to eat you feel comfortable and familiar with that certain product, where as the internet is writing copy to sell right here and right now! haha

i dont think these websites are necessarily masters at good copywriting, they just right catchy headlines which grabs the readers attention. You can learn a lot from there methods.

Never thought of it that way, but yeah - those headlines are like magnets for certain sorts of people - image/status obsessed.

Although I believe while their headlines are well written, their body copy doesn't always match up to being supernaturally compelling and awesome
