Who Dare To Try Me...To Copywrite For You

Dare To Try Me to Copywrite For You

A brief introduction about myself. I am a self-learner in copywriting and sort of fanatic as well.

For for one thing

Fact: I never write commercially for a client before.

That's why the headline that I wrote above.

However, I have to start from somewhere somehow.

As I would really like to jumpstart a copywriting career on part-time basis right now, I would appreciate if any copywriters out there would like to give me some work so as to gain the experience.

( Or any marketers who would like me to help copywrite for them ).

I work on small brochure, mini-salesletters, squeeze pages and email autoresponders.

I can work on a contingency or project fee-based approach.

Let me know...

How I would work on your project

1) Doing research on your market
2) Finding the hot buttons of your prospect
3) Writing a salesletter/emails/brochure etc that catered to your target market using proven salesletter architecture structure and persuasion language.

Since a large amount of work is involved from research to actual work,
a reasonable payout is what I asked for. I'm not going to ask for the market rates since I just started out.

Appreciate any response from existing copywriters who were overloaded work and has to bypass some of them. (We could split commission...as I do the work for you)

Hope to hear from some Great Guys to help a newbie copywriter to start off his freelance copywriting career.

Thanks.

Regards,
Jerry

Jerry, normally I'd reserve my comments and share them in private, but your example is so revealing and illustrative, it begs to be reviewed.

It's a lesson to anyone who's looking to build their career as a copywriter.

Bottom line: You're not going to get business with this particular piece. But not for the reasons you think.

    Here are the reasons:

    1. Your copy is filled with grammar challenges. And no offense to you, it's clear English is not your native language.

    2. You're focusing on a market of copywriters? To get copywriting business? Why not write for yourself or write for marketers-in-need as a first line of marketing?

    3. The majority of your copy is about you. Not about what a copywriter would want in someone like you.

A telltale indicator? How many "I"s do you count as opposed to how many "you"s? If I'm reading copy, I want it to be all about ME, even if it's all about you.

    4. You do not differentiate yourself. You do not know how to distinguish a benefit from a feature. You do not know to weave compelling promises and proof into the piece.

For instance, how do I know you're a fanatic? Prove it.

What's the big promise you can make about your work? One which, no doubt and no kidding, you can deliver on?

Here's the last important reason. The one you should remember:

    5. When writing for/about yourself and trying to get work, you're going to be judged on how well you sell yourself on paper to the prospect.

Stated differently, you're going to be judged by your words.

Which actually is good. It's easier. Most of us are judged by how well our words "convert."

Jerry, my post here was only for illustrative purposes only. To help you and others in the same position.

I really hope you do well and I'm sure once people see your improved version, they'll take a second look.

      Rick,

That was a rather gentle way of making your points. Very nicely done.

      And all true, of course.

Jerry, I admire your tenacity and your confidence to pitch for your services, but I too second Rick and Marcia on this one - your pitch is full of errors.

The other thing is you haven't mentioned if you have a portfolio or anything that proves you are good - so asking for a 'reasonable rate' or to complete excess work from a busy copywriter is well, going to be very difficult for you and I don't think many people will take the chance.

What I strongly suggest is to get a website and get some samples of your work on there to prove that you can do a good brochure and squeeze page etc.

When I started out, the first thing I did was start building my portfolio. I took a very boring everyday object and challenged myself to make it more interesting - so I wrote a brochure on fridge freezers and had a professional designer mock it up for me into a brochure for free - in return for me re-writing his web content.

I also created several other samples and I landed my first role doing resumes for an online career company after just three weeks of everything going up on my site.

That was then and I have since done Paul Hancox's copywriting course which I wholeheartedly recommend. If you are serious about getting some copy chops, get on a course and go from there.

Then hopefully the next time you post up, you should hopefully get some good offers.

Best of luck with your efforts and don't forget, the proof is in the proverbial pudding.

Good advice, but I don't think you always have to show prospects your portfolio.

If you can get your prospects to read your mesmorizing pitch from beginning to end, without glossing over it like so much other written minutia in the world, then they are therefore convinced of your writing!

The ones that make it all the way to the end of your pitch are the ones that will be itching to contact you.

So our job from there is to urge them to contact with a strong call to action and incentive to do so.

          Hi Jerry,

I have a small, but unpaid job for you.

Last night a friend handed me a flyer for a weight loss
product he wanted me to improve.

I agreed to help him for no charge.

I'll work with you on how to turn the dud into a stud.

All the material needed is on the flyer, so no research is needed.

I'll even show you how to create the phone script to make the sale.

It's a market I was in full time in the late 80's.

It allowed me to buy 5 rental properties in 18 months.

So, if you are serious about following your passion
for creating killer direct response ads, then you had better move fast...

...so I know you are doer, not a dreamer.

Thanks and look forward to be able to gain the experience.

Thanks for all the GREAT and CORRECTIVE comments by fellow warriors.

                Appreciate it very much.

                My squeeze page example:
Vol.II: 7 Strategies to inrease your leads and sales through the power of joint venture

Some autoresponder email letters I write at a rush...so pardon if there is grammatical errors. (for my own squeeze page)

                Here they are:

Subject line: The MONK that tells a lie ...

At one corner of a tunnel that I frequent by,
there is an orange robe-dressed decent looking man
                man pounding on the street.

On his hand there was a pouch.

You can hear platter of coins sound as he moved.

Then he started approaching people asking for
                donations.

The next moment you will see notes and coins
                dropping into the pouch.

Finishing his rounds, he took out his latest
high tech gadget - iphone 2 and started his
                conversation.

Then he went to a high class shop and took out
                a credit card!

You can even see the sparkle of a gold necklace
that hide conspiciously around his neck.

                A Monk....??

If he's a true and legitimate monk, then there is
only a conclusion I can draw from this.

Probably there are 2 camps then.

The beggar class and the fluent class.

                Anyway...

In the make money business, there are 2 camps as
                well.

The Legitimate one Vs the Hypey one.

They both dress the same but they smell different.

One is out to get your hard-earn cash...while the
other passionate to add value to your life.

Both barter your money for a cause.

One delivers the solution to your hard pressed problems
while the other only add salt to your wounds.

                It's easy to smell them.

                How, Jerry?

                It's simple.

Hear carefully this secret detective techniques.

                1) Ask yourself what emails are they sending out everytime?

                Sales....after...sales....

                or occasionally they send something
useful that you can use that enhance
                your life and business.

                2) How do they treat you...like a friend...or an ATM
                machine?

                3) Do they answer your questions, do they support you after
you buy their services and products?

These are all tell tales signs of the camps they are in.

Fortunately, there is one person I want to recommend.

He's defintely one of those in the good camp.

He's well-known and he's DEAD serious about your success.

He came out with a program that would REALLY help achieve
                your financial goals.

                --> His integrity is undisputable.
--> His teaching is fun, applicable and some called him a Great
                teacher.
--> He doesn't talk, he walks the talk, unlike some so-called
                gurus.

You'll be glad to take a look at what he has to offer.

Subject line: Online Holocaust is about to occur...

The holocust of year 1933 has taken thousands and
                millions of lives.

There was no better example than the infamous Nazi
regime which persecute the Jews and deprive them of
                their dignity.

When I ponder over it, it sends shiver down my spine.

Many were sent to concentration camps, some were
                murdered while others were enslaved....

Here's an upcoming holocust that is even more deadlier

                "The Online Holocust"

According to statistics, many business fails
in the first six months starting online.

There is even a conspiracy that goes on within a close
                mastergroup circle.

It seemed when the conspiracy begins, many more online
                business had to close down.

Another repeat of the DOT COM BUst...or even worst then
                that.

Those business deemed inferior, less customer concentric
                will be MURDERED.

They will be sent to the ghettos...to serve in the
monastery camp to pray for repentance.

Great news for the legitimate...honest entrepreneurs.

Bad news for the hypey guys that still go on robbing
people with their cash-thirsty gadgets and slogans...

Then the question is what about the newbies?

What is left for those who are just getting started?

Would they be ostracized like the Jews in the holocaust?

                Perhaps.

However, this risk can be shelted out if anyone knows
                about the joint venture secret.

I do not care if there is BAD WEATHER Cold or Hot...

I do not care what conspiracy that is going on.

I do not care if there is any financial meltdown or
                dom com BUST...

                It's recession proof.

It's an ancient secret that grant the angelic
                Armour of Protection.

No arrows penetrate...no casualties in the bloodshed
                online holocust war..

While others are stepped and trampled....you stood
on high ground above the storm.

You can laugh about it when the commotion goes on.

Why because you have the Joint Venture Secret.

                Here's another one:

Subject line: Man-eating Cannibals Eat Their Clients

                I watched a movie recently.

It was not washy..wishy and every moment is a stirring
                of the adrenaline.

Human is "virused" and turn into heartless Cannibals.

An old kind mother of a Sergeant officer transformed
overnight into a monster and ate her own children!

The whole town was polluted with an impending wave
                of Dread and DOOM.

Sounds like 'Alien' invading earth but I rather called
                it Cannibalic Ghosts Run *Amo...k.*

                Freaky isn't it?

Anyway, it got me into thinking.

No wonder so many people are skeptical about the online
                world.

You just do not know who to trust.

There are a gazillion ways in using email..more and more

However despite that, some said it's damm...nit silly.

                It's not going to work.

It's traditional and out of the norm.

But truth from fiction, the facts tell itself.

                The skeptics are silenced.

They come to realise email is as close as a friend...
as much as an intimate vehicle and radio station.

Truth to be told, it's like a broadcast machine.

The problem is not with the vehicle, it's the one who
                rides on it.

Whether he had the skills to maneuver it the right way
that it does not end up in casualties.

Many ask how to get people to love you and follow you....
                like morbid fans with emails....

However, they do not have the SECRET KEY..and

it all lies in the Email Knight Secret.

where this ancient script will teach anyone

how to wield the strength of this powerful sword..and
                becoming an email knight.

You will become a master in no time.

You will learn wield the sword confidently and mightily.

Then look no further..."The Email Knight Secret".

I tried to PM you but I don't yet have enough posts to be able to, according to the message I received. I would have loved to work on something just to get a few toes wet and see exactly what I'm working with and how much fine-tuning I need.

I changed the formatting of your email address so it's no longer a live link.

I think you need 50 posts before you can PM someone.

I am not going to comment on your first post as you have some awesome warriors extending a great deal of kindness, and most probably time, to you.

However I wanted to comment on your emails. Like a few others have said, the holocaust email is a no go. No matter how well it ties into your pitch or message, I think a lot of people would find it incredibly distasteful, however I think all of us here understand you had no intent on being negative.

But also like the others, I enjoyed the monk letter - minus the errors.

Although it was full of very obvious grammatical errors, I think it had a very good message behind it, and I thought it "flowed" very well.

But stay away from holocaust... and death in general. Not only is it offensive to just about every single person on earth, but the last thing you want when writing copy is to attach such horrendous and negative emotions, images, and feelings to it. They might feel that way every time they open any subsequent letters from you, if they stay subscribed.

                            Good luck.

                  Hey,

Even though I can tell English isn't your first language, I actually like your emails. Shows you got an imagination and the ability to stand out in the marketplace once you're able to express yourself with proper grammar.

Bro... Honestly... You'll make an awesome marketer... But I personally don't think freelance copywriting is your forte. Write copy in your native language perhaps?

Aside from grammar and spelling problems -- there is no "excuse" for being in a "rush" -- and no excuse for making that excuse ... my brief thoughts:

Monk email - I liked it.

Cannibals email - I could see what you were trying to do and it was a good idea, but the segue didn't work for me.

Holocaust email - Unbelievably offensive. I would have unsubscribed on the spot. Jerry, that is one of the most offensive postings I've ever seen on the forum.

If there is one takeaway I have for you in this post, that is for you to never get near that topic again.

Yea, I have to say that the holocaust copy was the one that popped out in my mind. There is absolutely nothing that can compare to the planned and systematic slaughter of a people.

                      Nothing.

This is offensive to anyone with a pulse and has nothing to do with who the reader is. Some of the basic assumptions behind this text is that you are not knowledgeable about that period in human history.

I suggest you take a couple of hours an do some research online. I'm sorry if seems off-topic to anyone reading this post. It touched a nerve and I think this type of behavior has to be responded to.

I do a lot of searching on Google. And sometimes I strike lucky.

And sometimes other people strike lucky. Believe me, I know for a fact I've saved a lot of people a lot of money. I believe in the hundreds of thousands.

Anyway, my answer is, I'll try and find the site again and let you know.

Give me a slap round the head as a reminder if I forget.

Edit: Just thought some might think this is obvious and I should know where I got it. Fact is it's a foreign site and - being a bit thick - I don't always keep records. Which means I sometimes just wait until I get a reminder to renew and that's how I know what the site was.
