What is the cost of hiring a copywriter

Hi Copywriters,

I'm planning to hire a copywriter for my service that I will be promoting here in this forum. But I'm afraid that it would cost more than I could afford.

Do you know of any cheap service but of high quality that you would recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Copywriting isn't a cost, it's an investment. An investment in your profit, your bottomline.

    What do you call 'cheap'?

    What is your budget?

Decent young copy writers, up and coming, very talented but still trying to make a name for themselves - still a little rough around the edges and not 100% confident in their abilities start at about $1500.

Older, established top dogs will set you back $10K +.

    That's been my experience anyway.

    Good luck.

As a side note though, unless you have pretty decent copy chops yourself and know what works, you would be better off to hire a vet.

I say this because the "up and comers" can be a bit of a project sometimes, and can also be hit and miss. If you don't know what to look for it's easy to get burned.

So - if you don't know good copy and can't do decent copy yourself - you should just invest the money in a veteran, established writer. He will be able to help you out in a lot of ways with your business in most cases - not just your copy. It will be a great education for you as well as money maker.

The old adage always applies: You get what you pay for.

Any good copywriter is going to charge a reasonable price for his or her services. Why would they charge a cheap price when they provide excellent copy?

      It doesn't make sense.

I doubt you will find what you are looking for.

Yeah, you're speaking on totally redundant terms, as if everyone here follows your exact frames of reference.

To some, $10k is really cheap. Just saying.

      Yes they are. Reverse psychology.

A newbie copywriter charging peanuts is actually more expensive because they can't get the conversions that a professional copywriter can bring to the table.

An 'expensive' copywriter who charges thousands on the other hand could send your conversions through the roof so even though you had to invest let's say $5,000 minimum, the return on your investment was so good that essentially you got the sales copy completely free of charge.

      Now that's 'cheap'.

A newbie charging peanuts who has a mentor behind him - and who is charging peanuts because he needs to build a portfolio and experience can be the best deal you ever got.

I'm pretty sure that if you asked someone like Vin Montello or Kevin Rogers to hook you up with a new, promising student you'd be very happy with the result and it would be in the price range of even a "newbie" who is serious about this as a BUSINESS.

      Simply not true, see above.

Nobody who is both established and good is cheap - but you can find very promising up and coming writers on the cheap if you yourself are a good writer and know what to look for.
