Thought this was a PERFECT HEADLINE for an Air Conditioning company. It definitely grabbed my attention when I first drove past the billboard. I would imagine it would have the same effect as the headline to a sales letter.

This sign has been in South Florida for a few years now, but I figured I would share it with some of you that hadn't seen it yet.

Caught my attention too. Guess it works. Now the questions should be: will it convert?

If that is placed by the highway in the middle of the desert, and the potential customer driving by has his AC out of whack... yeah, it would most likely pull some sales.

    Nice find!

I, for one, have no problem sending these people to your house to be alone with your hot wife.

Oh please use the "...boom chicka wow wow" background music in the radio spots. Please. Please. Please. Because nothing causes people to invite a stranger into their home better than boom-chicka wow wow. Anyone who has watched a porn movie knows that.

TV spots could have a Jersey Shore guy, coverall unzipped to navel, fifteen gold chains around his neck.

A wife would never shoot you for calling these guys over to "...fix that for ya." (IfyaknowutImean.)

Slogan: We take the concept of contractors screwing you to a whole 'nother level.

Wait, is this a continuation of the "Copywriting is Like Love Making" thread. 'cause that's hi-larious.

I definitely agree with Subtle here.
The first billboard message was a little cute and sometimes
"cute" and "smart" doesn't sell because the message gets
          buried in the 'cuteness'.

But the second billboard goes overboard in this respect so the
the message gets even more cluttered.

I agree with Mr Subtle 100%. The first billboard is clever and only slightly "naughty" but you quickly get the joke.

The second is gratuitous, clumsy and crass.

I think this thread might make a great teaching tool for good design vs bad.

That said, I'd love to know the results of them both. I could be completely wrong...

that other one is a rip from the one here in south fla.

it got a LOT of publicity... especially down here.... so much so another AC company swiped the thing and did a similar ad.... and got sued.

but this is like 2-3 years old guys... its defo not new.

the billboard is on the interstate, so it gets a TON of views.... and down here, its hotter than hell... so you bet ppl need their AC.

I think the first leads to the second. Once you get some response being a little clever, a little cute, the tendency is to go overboard -- you clever yourself to death.

Everybody wants to be clever. Nobody wants to be smart.

Blonde, pretty, shapely... you can bet that model gets the second billboard plenty of attention.

Is it more effective than the first? Who knows. My guess... yes.

Interestingly, the two billboards are selling different benefits.

The first billboard is selling emergency service: "Air Around The Clock"

The second billboard is selling money savings: "Save $3,000 or more".

How did the original ad do? Our opinion is meaningless if sales were not made (forgotten on Warrior, I know).

In my opinion if my air went out my wife is not really any more concern than
my own discomfort. I would not need to be driving down the street to get the
idea to get it fixed- I would have cracked open the yellowist book and got a
    fixer over, fast.

Good point. Obviously, I don't have their sales figures to show.. However - I do know that most people in Miami are familiar with the sign and that company because of the "YOUR WIFE IS HOT" line.

As someone posted above - it also allowed them to receive major media attention on tv. That's free advertising in itself!

Want the results? Here you go...

The court case over whether your wife is hot or not has been settled.

The answer: Well, it's a secret.

Air Around the Clock, a Coral Springs air-conditioning company, has reached an out-of-court agreement in its trademark infringement case against a competitor. Air Around the Clock had accused the rival of misappropriating its successful "Your wife is hot. Better get your A/C fixed" billboard campaign.
So, that would be profits AFTER infringement lawsuits -- or enforcing if you're on the other side -- and court costs.

    I love clever.

Around Atlanta there's a tendency to randomly place cute dogs on billboards, and no, they aren't the company mascot. My best guess is that dogs come in 2nd in the category of "made you look" without all the weird baggage in the wife-is-hot approach.

So what do you think of

    Your Dog is Hot
(picture of collapsed dog with tongue hanging out - really easy picture to get with a bulldog, which btw is the University of Georgia mascot)

    - better get your A/C fixed!

I bet the Florida HVAC competitor that went that route could trump those other guys and even get some press from the new angle.
