Professionals to do the Visual Design of Sales Page

I have my sales page content written and on my website. But I don't have any skills in making it work visually. I want to hire someone who specializes in making sales copy look great visually, in terms of color, layout, font sizes, etc.

Does anyone know where I could find a selection of professionals who do this kind of work? I've looked on Elance for an hour but haven't found people with this particular skill.

This is what I would do: Go to the 'Warriors For Hire' Subforum. Post the same question.
You'll start getting some pm's from some of the designers. Ask them what they've done lately in the way of sales pages....take a look at those pages. Be very specific about what you need/expect. I know of no certain way to guarantee a good outcome, except through a bit of experimentation.

I used to know a guy named Mike Klassen who specialized in doing design and layout for sales pages, but mostly offline. He did big mailers for some prominent names. You might try looking for him.

the skill you refer to is something very few people can do... and even fewer who can do it well.

I would know because i was one of the first designers specializing in direct response websites... when I started back in 2000, there was only 2 or 3 of us... now theres a lot more... but remember this.

designing for response is not the same as designing for looks.

unfortunately, i no longer work with clients. :-)

There are two things to consider. One is the overall appearance. It seems that's what you're talking about.

The other is far more important. That's the text formatting. You can have the greatest copy in the world but if it's not formatted properly no one will know.

There are probably hundreds of threads on WF debating the long versus short sales letter. If a pitch is properly formatted a smart copywriter will appeal to people who prefer either long or short.

This is done with the proper use of paragraph headers, bullets, tables, graphics, video, audio and other stuff. A good copywriter understands how people look at a page and presents the copy to accommodate virtually all readers.

People who want it short will scan the stuff that stands out. If they feel the need for more all they have to do is get into more of the text. For people who want to analyze everything down to the gnat's ass, it's all in there too.

In my experience there are VERY FEW Web designers who even understand this. They think "pretty" is enough. It's not.

I'd suggest you get your page optimized for the reader before you start shopping for visual appeal. Good luck.

Thanks everyone for all your help with my question. I found a copywriter on Elance who seems to really know what he's doing. I'll post once we're all done, probably within the next week or so.

Make sure English is his first language. Talk to him on the phone if you haven't already.
