I am trying to help my brother get more people to sell items to his pawnbroking business as he is struggling to get stock to sell.

I have worked out some copy for a postcard campaign which I think will help, but feel like there are lots of angles I am missing, especially with the economy the way it is.

Can anyone think of any clever promotions/angles/advertising that we could do to get people to come in and sell us their items?

Some people just won't go to a pawn shop. Try holding a 'buying event' in a hotel ballroom.

Check out the Payday Loan websites. They know exactly how to appeal to their target market, and perhaps you could use one of their tactics.

If you'd like your postcard critiqued, feel free to PM me. I'd be happy to look it over and make suggestions.

This applies if he buys gold and diamonds.

Here in Auckland there is a chain of pawnbrokers which have been using radio advertising for over a year now using the same appeal.

The appeal is that world gold and diamond prices are at a all time high and all those old and unused jewellery lying around are worth a lot of money. They then list what those types of jewellery are and then tell the money can be spent on a nice treat for themselves.

Where an advertiser is spending a good amount of money on advertising and using the same appeal over a year, indicates that it's working.

      Best,
      Ewen

Another idea is to place an ad in the "want to buy" section of ebay.co.uk, because on ebay people are already thinking about selling their stuff around the house, but would probably prefer not to have to ship it off and would welcome a chance to sell their stuff locally instead.
