Catalog product copywriting or yellow page copywriting?

I've been searching around for a course or a way to learn how to write copy for a catalog product and yellow page ads. I am looking for how to write the short and sweet type ads and not the long sales letter type ads as I can outsource that, but have a need to learn the other type ads. So far I've seen a course at AWAI on catalog copywriting and a course on yellow page ads on the net but not much else. Does anyone have any suggestions for this type of copywriting?

Thanks,

-Bob

It's all the same when it comes down to it...

But one of the best ways to learn is to find some SOLID catalogs that you know convert because of the copy and not the products and write the copy out by hand to understand what the writer was doing and how.

It's the best method that I've given to "students" of mine because it helps them develop the rhythm of good copy as well as the substance.

Warrior Jay White has an excellent catalog copywriting course -- PM him and ask about it, if he doesn't pop up in the thread to answer you.

I know Alan Saltz has a yellow pages course, although I haven't tried it.

Thanks for all the replies so far. Has anyone taken the AWAI Catalog course and found it worth the money?

You could also get Bob Bly's "World's Best Catalog Copywriting Secrets" and Herschell Gordon Lewis book "How to Write Catalog Copy That Sizzles".
Finally download the PDF's at American Writers & Artists Inc. on catalog copywriting.I don't know much about yellow pages copywriting so I can't tell you anything about it.
