Favorite Project Sites for Copywriters?

Greetings....

Need your advice on the best sites for finding copywriting work,e.g. elance, etc...

I have a strong branding background in healthcare and professional services...I need to get established with a couple of these sites (or just one) so I can start earning some more consistent income...

Appreciate all your thoughts...

If you're really a copywriter, marketing yourself should come very naturally to you. If you cannot market yourself, how are you going to be in a position to help market other people?

This thread might just refocus your direction...

Or, buy this, read the Marketing Mayhem PDF and guaranteed you'll have more work for the next 3 months than you can possibly handle. And for just $7 it's a bargain...

Pete's right. Learn how to market yourself.

Why work for peanuts if you don't have to?

There's plenty of free material around on positioning. One article that comes immediately to mind is Perry Marshall's,

Positioning vs. Prospecting. Motivated Selling vs. Tactical Marketing

Those project sites are for bottom feeders... there's no decent money there. If your copywriting skills are decent, you should stay away from them.

Thank you for posting that article. I got a lot of value out of it. I never thought about it that way but it does make perfect sense. The doctor never calls you. If your prospects are seeking you out then they will not only be more qualified but it gives you more of a position of power. Great info...really changes the way you think about marketing yourself.

I think the best thing to do is to get your own website and start marketing yourself. You could try cold calling. Many people don't like it, but let's face it, it is a numbers game that works.

Or even better ... Use direct mail.

If you are a copywriter, what better way to prove yourself AND get clients. Scalable, non-threatening, only warm leads contact you putting you in the driving seat.

It's way more scalable (and fun) than cold calling and much more effective. If you value your time (which you should), then it is also less expensive.
