Photos, Clip Art, Illustrations for re-sale

I am looking for a source that can provide images that can be re-sold as part of a "done for you" Power Point sales presentation for a particular industry. The merchants in that industry would use the presentation to present their product to prospective customers.

I have noticed that most of the major stock photo sites have gone to expensive licensing ($99 for an "extended license"). At that price, a PPt deck with 100 illustrated slides would be too expensive to make and sell.

Most of the licenses prohibit use of their images at any price in "web templates." While they don't specify PPt per se, I'm guessing it too would be a prohibited use because it's just too easy to pull the image out of a Power Point and use it somewhere else. Which could leave me holding the bag for a customer's copyright violation. (BTW, one stock photo site says if you buy an image and use it in your business brochure, that's "one use." If you want to use it in a counter card, you have to pay for it and download it again, because that's a second use!!!)

How are you illustrating your projects? Am I thinking about this the right way? Would appreciate thoughts & suggestions.

Thank you Warriors!

Robert

I illustrate my projects by doing my own illustration unique to the project.

One of the benefits of having an artist for a father is some of it does rub off.

Possibly (?) you want to do a search for PowerPoint backgrounds. While that may not be the right way to think about it, nobody will notice.

Unless you can detail what you are trying to achieve with the PowerPoint, there's no way to answer than generics. ...You could do an infographic. ...Storyboards ...Could be animatics would work. Or maybe the generic junk everybody always uses. Impossible to know without details.

      Thanks John...

I am noticing this trend a lot and wondered how come big guys like Dan Kennedy were using obviously hand drawn graphics in their vids.

There are video producers who include those and they are not cheap (from what I've seen). I believe some of those graphics in the Gamechanger DNA videos might have been done by this guy: www.adtoons.com. I don't know for sure, but he's obviously done work for Dan before.

            • Hey Mark and Paul - not a good answer, actually! Although it seems like it should be. I am creating a Ppt for an industry - and after hours on Google reading licensing agreements - I come to the same conclusion: you can find free and low cost images for any project - except a project where the image could be extracted and used outside the project. Most license agreements I ve seen specifically prohibit use in that context. That means I could make and sell a tee shirt, because no one would rip off the image by scanning the shirt. But it appears as if you can't use the image in a way that would allow someone who hasn't licensed it to access the image file. If your Google searches reveal something else, help a brother out and point the way. Thanks!

Your best bet might be to find a graphics artist and commission them to make the illustrations for you. I am assuming you are talking about simple vector art business style graphics?

I have done this for customers a few times, so I know that is how some people deal with the problem.

If money is an issue you may be able to find a talented graphics student who will do it for you economically (and I have known plenty of students who are more than capable of doing a very professional job.)

deviantART: where ART meets application! Lots of free illustrations, brushes, tools, etc. there.

Istockphoto.com allows you to download images for use on your website etc. An extended license is if you want to resell the image, so the basic $1.20 or so per image is what you'd pay.

There is a "fair use" policy where if you use artwork you must give the source. If your making digital media, and the artist requests you take it down, you must.

That is the norm in commercial photography and stock agency industry.

In fact, the price charged is usually for one-time printing only - say in an advertisement in a 50,000 circulation magazine. If the image is used again the next month, or if the image is run in a different magazine, or if the image is used on a billboard, the user is charged again each time.

This has been the norm in the photography industry and in advertising for as long as I can remember. (I owned a photo studio for 38 years.) The professional advertising agency people undstand this.

Thanks Don - One of the neat things about this Forum is that we get insights from folks like you who know.

      • My final on this subject: i asked BigStock for terms and conditions for my project as described above. They asked if the Ppt could be edited. When I told them that it could be, they told me: extended license, $99 per image. at 50 slides in my deck, a product selling at WSO or ClickBank pricing becomes risky and unprofitable at a cost to make of $4950 - not including my time as copywriter.
