Musing from the Gonzo Journalist...

I was looking throught the new issue of Newsweek today, and Johnny Depp had written a piece on Gonzo Journalist - Hunter S. Thompson...

Now for you younger types, if you are not familiar with Hunter, you only need to read "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas", or some of Hunter's other forays into the world of the abby-normal, to understand the definition of "party animal"...:rolleyes:

There was part of a paragraph which struck me, that in 1959-60, Hunter used to type the copy of the book "The Great Gatsby", over and over...to "see what it felt like to write a masterpiece" -

Instead of just reading and hopefully emulating a great writer...TO ACTUALLY COPY THEM - so you're physically infused with the task, and feeling, and perhaps the accomplishment...of great writing.

I found this an interesting way to make good writing "second nature"...

To make good writing rote, if you will...

Hunter certainly did things his own way...

Maybe F. Scott Fitzgerald will not be your muse, but when you find an interesting writer you admire, it might be an interesting exercise to do...
