Hello,

I remember reading about a tool that can help me test the effectiveness of my headline. Since the purpose of a good headline is to just lead my visitors to the rest of the sales page, shouldn't it be easy to test a headline independently by tracking how far visitors go on a page?

Thanks

As you get more experience, you can tell whether a headline is strong or not just by looking at it. It is difficult to have a software that can test headlines.

Why don't ask your fellow warriors to critique your headline? You will get valuable lessons.

However, to further answer your question, when people visit your site and leave in haste, there are many factors the may be causing that one of them being the headline.

The best medicine would be to test. Change headlines and see the effect.

You can use a "heatmap" to see what people are doing onsite...or...even better, watch a video of what they are doing with ClickTale, The leader in Heatmaps, Usability & Web Analytics -
Want to watch movies of your visitors’ screens as they use your website? ClickTale allows you to do that too. You can view each visitor’s browsing session as a Flash video. (There is a limit to how many videos can be stored.) It may sound impossible, and ever-so-slightly creepy, but it’s true. It’s just like you’re looking over their shoulders. You can even see their cursor and their keystrokes. You can choose which video to watch, based on attributes such as the visitor’s country of origin, their time on site, or the number of pages they visited. You may choose to watch videos of people who appear to be struggling—for example, those who visit the same page several times.
    If you're using Wordpress there's a plug-in that split-tests headlines - WordPress › Headline Split Tester « WordPress Plugins -
This plug-in allows you to enter an alternate headline for every post on your blog. The headlines are then randomly alternated on your website until a certain number of "headline views" has been reached. At that point, a "winning" headline (as determined by the number of people that have clicked on each headline to date) is determined and that headline is shown going forward.
But as our colleague above says, experience will also guide you.

Personally I find it fascinating to see which headline will win a split-test.

Oh I think hes talking about glyphus. A software program which supposedly ranks copy effectiveness based off of mathematical evaluation of words and patterns used in about 1300 previously successful sales letters.

Michel Fortin was a big supporter of it while Clayton Makepeace hated it with intense passion. Mainly because I think it gave Makepeaces best performing ads a low score lol!

I would say the easiest way to tell is run an A/B split test with the two different headlines and see what the response rate is
