Ad Writing vs On Writing
I'm reading Stephen King's "On Writing" for the first time.
It's weird how similar his rules of fiction writing are similar to ad writing.
I'm reminded of a lot of lessons...
-Be simple and direct... like using one syllable words...
-Write in the active voice instead of passive voice.
-Don't use adverbs.
-Strip out unnecessary words in your sentences.
-It's OK to break rules if it better gets the point across.
Normally when I'm studying copywriting they say it's nothing like literary writing, but in the case of the great fiction writers like Stephen King it seems like their rules for writing are exactly the same.
