How many people are fulltime copywriters versus part-time?

How many people on this forum make a fulltime living from copywriting, article writing and blog writing? The reason I ask is that I'm aware of the up and down nature of working freelance, and wondered how many people make a good, fulltime, living from copywriting and how many people do it in their spare time.

For those that are fulltime writers, what sorts of projects make up your workload? Are these one off projects from clients, or regular, recurring work from clients?

It would be good to know the sorts of revenue streams people are enjoying, and useful for people who want to become fulltime copywriters but are concerned about the regularity of work when they have families to support and bills to pay.

I only work part-time due to health and some months it is good and others it is quiet but I am slowly changing that for the better. I also receive a pension so I know I have that for my basics.

Dude...this is the copywriting section. We eat content writers and bloggers for breakfast. You need to read the sticky. Some of the guys here are pulling in serious dosh - as fulltime copywriters - not to be confused with 10 cents a word article-writing scum.

Seriously though; serious? That was a tad unprovoked, don't you think?

You, sir, have now felt the seething wrath of the infamous C. Nazi.

He ain't always right, but even when he's wrong you'll wish you'd seen it his way.

All joking aside, Mal's actually a big teddy bear. He's helped a number of people out on this forum.

Some are terrified of him, but there's nothing to fear here. It's just that he enjoys the emotional part of copywriting too much not to share.

What the hell you talking about you Marxist. We're under attack by these fill-in-the-missing-words. Check his signature - that's enough for me. The day content or so-called article-writing - and that's a misnomer if ever I saw one - is in the same league as copywriting - I'll eat my beret. I just wish they'd piss off into some other backwater of the WF and leave this backwater to the Bentley-driving, jet-flying, mansion-owning, créme-de-la-créme of the online copywriting world. He should be shot for having a cheesy nickname like that for starters. What next - Shake-my-Speare?

"Words of worth" - you kidding me? That's right up there with that other mate of mine, Richard and his "WordFruit" - he assures me he's straight.

Any takers for "CopyFruit"? Has a nice ring to it. Boom boom.

Normal programming will resume in a minute.

            Mal,

If you were closer to the States I'd drive straightaway to your castle and kiss you full on the lips.

Now ... what's all this talk about a CopyFruit?

            Doc

P.S. And I'm a Groucho Marxist, not a Karl Marxist.

P.S.S. Not to be confused with Karl Malden, the estimable actor.

Now now, I didn't read your username and see your location and automatically assume you were a wine-guzzling, cheese-eating, Jew-burning surrender monkey, even though one could reasonably garner that information from the clues within your profile. To assume that I, therefore, am one of those crappy content writers you detest so much is a little unfair.

As a company we do offer writing work to people who aren't professional writers, it is true. We have hundreds of writers around the world working for us, producing thousands of articles and blogs each month, but then we also have professional writers working on more profitable works too. I won't be so crass as to throw client names around on the Internet, but suffice to say we do have a number of global brands for whom we provide copy each month, some direct, and some through other, better known, agencies.

Our portfolio of clients is as varied as the landscape in America, and we don't take a 'we drive a Bentley so we're better than you' attitude with anyone.

              No need for that.

Regarding the question, yes I "work" full time as a copywriter, along with some income from Adsense, some ebooks, some software and affiliate stuff.

Copywriting is my main occupation, as the other stuff is passive income.

I'm freelancing at top London agencies like JWT, Ogilvy, Rufus Leonard... long list. In between jobs, I blog, write IM copy, film scripts, novels... I have been known to drop my $500 a day fee for people in IM who might also be interested in JV-ing with me, but I wouldn't get out of bed for these article jobs at a few dollars a pop.
