Smashwords Formatting Question

I hope this is the right section to post this on.
So, i have several ebooks on the Kindle, and now im looking to also publish them on Smashwords. The problem is....the style guide is HUGE! it's starting to overwhelm me.

So my question is this: Im already well-familiar with Kindle formatting. Is Smashwords' formatting THAT much different? Or is it safe to assume that a book will look just as good if i publish the same exact copy on Smashwords as-is? Because if it "passes" fine through Kindle, then hopefully i can avoid overwhelming myself with Smashwords' huge guide.

Alternatively, is there a "condensed" version of their style guide? Because this is the only one i keep finding:

Thanks!

  • Nope this isnt the correct forum. Not sure what it would go under though.
  • Diablo,

I don't know which forum this should be placed, but that said, there is a printing on demand and ebook newsgroup at Yahoo. Many of the heavy hitters in the small publisher world hang out there.

One fellow from the UK does ebook formatting at very reasonable rates. I believe it is less than $30 USD. His name is Jim Brown.

Here is where you find that newsgroup:

pod_publishers : Print on Demand Publishers

Also, in the guide from Smashwords for which you posted a link, there is a place to send an email to Smashwords, and they will send you a list of people who do Smashwords formatting.

  • Hey Diablo2, if you find the answer to your question please come back and let me know because I am looking for the same answer. Thanks
  • look within the smashwords forums or if you do a search here for a post I made about kindle and smashwords a while back: a smashwords pro made an excellent style guide that applies to all ebook formats.

    edit: found it: http://www.smashwords.com/books/down...tyle-guide.pdf
