The Author is Rudolf Flesch.
I stumbled across the title while reading a 30 year old "best of" advertising book.
Fortunately, I was at a library and was able to glance at The Art of Readable Writing. Although written in 1949 it has some great, and relevant, tips for making writing more conversational. The book wasn't specifically aimed at the copywriting trade but most of what is in there seemed valuable.

  • Flesch is a classic authority. A scale for readable writing is named after him. He was involved in an initiative after World War Two to scale down the reading level of newspapers to the eighth grade level and keep them there. Researchers say that readership grew sharply after that.
