Getting started

Hello there ladies and gents.

It was only about a year ago that I embarked on a new career as a writer. It came about by chance and was something that "wouldn't do me any harm in trying". I surprised myself and have not looked back since.

I have come to a point though where I need to learn more in order to progress. I am currently producing SEO related work which has taken me about as far as it can do. What I really want to do is to learn sales copy techniques so I can take my career to the next level.

So, can anybody point me in the right direction of where to get started learning? An SEO writer (which I still am) does not make much so the funds aren't really there to pay for any coaching (yet).

Any help appreciated.

  • Your best bet, is to practice non-stop! Furthermore, post your copy here or get in touch with a copywriter on the Warrior Forum you respect and have that individual mentor you.

    You will improve slowly, which you can then offer your services for FREE to nicely ranked blogs, and once you improve their conversions, you can ask them to be a professional reference for you. Eventually you'll get into paying gigs!

    BTW - open up a file in your favorite word processing program and copy/paste information from forum to it. Great way to build up a learning resource.

  • So you're an article writer hoping to move into copywriting?

    Go to your local library and look for books by Dan Kennedy, David Ogilvy, John Caples and other copywriters (I'm sure you can search on their computerized database for "copywriting" and come up with stuff to take home with you Free).

    Copywriting, like any other skill, is not something you are going to learn and become great at overnight. I've been doing it since around 1994 and I'm not disappointed to say that I'm still learning every day.

      I live in Thailand which is a country that is not big on books, I've not come across a single library yet (I think there may be only one on the country). Any resources I need will have to be found online although this seems to be a good start: www(dot)*scientificadvertising.com/ScientificAdvertising.pdf

      I'm not expecting to become a master overnight. Just looking to get started so I can begin learning what to do (and what not to do)

  • just keep doing what you are doing... if you say you are succesful at it just keep doing it. if you are doing it for your own site you will make money from your website, if you are doing it for others, you can charge them for it. or just open an seo company. dont give up
