Looking for upsell page help

Hi,
I'm reviewing my stats and realize I have a big breakdown when people hit my upsell page.

11% of visitors to my home page click one of the buy buttons/links. However, my sales conversion is only about 1%!

My site is Triathlon Training and Swimming Workouts for Beginners

It's very well optimized so a lot of the traffic comes from search engines and referring sites. Also, I get about 10 new optins a day where I have an autoresponder sending out content for 18 emails with lots of links to this page.

The original page sold my DVD, with the upsell being my 2 other products (book & cards). Now, I have a membership site, so I'm giving them free 30 day access with any order. I think this makes it confusing, but not sure how else to present this. Any feedback would be appreciated!

    Hey Kev,

A couple of things really quick.

Okay, you introduce the "premium package" - look at your description...

    Just a blurb...

including 5 bonus ebooks, bonus interviews
I have 900 ebooks and 72 bonus interviews on my hard drive - How much will you give me for them? Nothing?

    SELL THE PREMIUMS!

No one buys ebooks or interviews. But I bet you have a ton of great bullet fodder in there...

Bonus 1: 3 Week Stamina Multiplier.

    - The 5 minute training regiment (you can do while watching TV) that Swimmer McSwimmingston used to trim his lap times by 3 seconds in 2 weeks - Using 20% less energy...

    - The never before seen...

Anyway - take those "ebooks and interviews" and turn them into massive benefits.

Then put the products side-by-side. Break them down. Show the overwhelming value.

The forced trial is probably hurting you too. Sell the 30-day freebie as a bonus. Give them a check-box to opt-out if they want to ala DoubleYourDating.com. (At least test it, you can always followup and pitch the membership post-purchase to those who pass).

    Hope that helps.

    -Scott

So you have an 11% click through, but only 1% buy?? So you have 10 out of 11 abandon their shopping cart??

If so - that's pretty normal online - there are things you can try to decrease cart abandon rates - like adding testimonials to your order form page, etc.

If what you are saying is that you are only converting 1% of buyers to your upsell offer - that does suck... something is very wrong for you to only be converting that low on an upsell while they are in buying mode...

anyhoo - please clarify which it is - and if it's your upsell that sucks at converting, post a link to that for feedback

also - although i know everyone has an opinion about video sales letters and how they don;t like them - but i write VSL's for the weight loss market - and video is still killing text - whether warriors like it or not...

you can probably double or more your conversion with a well written VSL - just food for thought...

Hey man I took a look at your cart, and here's what I think is going on.

    1) It's confusing. It's not entirely clear what is going on. There's a lot going on - it's way too much to spring on someone right before they're about to make that leap of faith, pull the trigger and actually buy something.
    2) Don't assume people watch the video.
    3) They need to process way too much information and make too many decisions. You make it really difficult to buy.
    4) You force them into a subscription system no matter which option - which is not what they agreed too when they clicked the add to cart button.
Also there's a good chance that they will feel
    A)-Confused
B)-Not want to actually spend the money month by month.
C)-Cheated, they hit the add to cart button, and now you're trying to make them buy something else. They might feel insulted, and or like/trust you less.

I've set up funnels where there are multiple options - but you really need to spell it out for them BEFORE they hit the add to cart button. And set the proper expectations for what's going to happen after they hit the button.

If I were you I'd just try to sell the DVD and see how the metrics respond. And then from there test and try ways to fit the upsell into the copy.
