Are copywriters doing more than copy nowadays?

I mean...

Did you know that some of the richest companies in the world were established during The Great Depression?

Slumps sell!

If you're NOT POSITIONING yourself to get some radical SOLUTIONS out there for people to BUY, you're leaving a ton of cash on the table for everyone else to divvy up.

And to answer the question in your post headline...

Copywriters develop brands, business models, company names, ad copy (for graphics), etc.

As for articles and reviews, why not?

But they wouldn't be $5 gigs.

If you want high-quality copy, you have to invest appropriately.

That's where the BIGGEST DISCONNECT takes place when someone (like yourself) who is accustomed to working with content/articles writers gets left behind.

Copywriters excel in conveying and eliciting very specific emotions.

That's why people who thrive in writing emotionally-displacing copy can charge the big bucks.

Most (but certainly not all) content writers produce drab material because they're mostly worried about meeting their word count... and other baseless stuff like that.

If you're selling something, anything, you're looking for a copywriter.

Period.

LOL, I can understand your point, but the reality is that good copywriters are never hungry for work.

Good copywriters have more work than they can handle, and price themselves out of the work they don't have time to do.

That's why I put together my own team of writers who I've trained to write effectively for the web, but who aren't exactly copywriters.

Because the fact of the matter is that you don't want and probably can't afford to have a copywriter write an article for you.

You want a content writer who understands some basic copy concepts to get that done.

Actually never mind, but making assumptions as to what people can afford, what they are used to, what they want on a forum with no understanding or knowledge of said poster makes you sound (a) condescending (b) rude.

I wasn't asking for $5 gigs or even $50 gigs, I was thinking more in the region of $500 type review articles.

Spouting a metric ton of captain obvious at me, hasn't helped either.

No **** the best copywriters are doing more business in a recession.

There's a different between the best and folks who are hugely more capable than $20 article writers.

$500 or so isn't a ton for a review article, IMHO, given it's a mini sales letter... but I know of a couple of up-and-comers who probably would be interested.

In addition to this thread, I'd suggest checking with some of the more expensive article writers. I don't know if either one of them is for hire but I've heard good things about the article quality from Caliban (screen name CDarklock) and Cori Padget.

Not every copywriter writes articles for clients. It's not something I enjoy writing and I'm fortunate to be busy enough with other copywriting work, so I don't do it. I noticed you mentioned your budget so hopefully you get some strong candidates contacting you to meet your needs.

As for what copywriters do during slow times... it depends on the copywriter. A good number of the ones I know create their own info-products, especially in niches that they don't normally write copy for. It's a fun way to do something different that can help recharge your creative batteries.
