Write if you want work

Rick Duris just sent me this. Mainly because he knows I started my career as a 16 year old runner for J. Walter Thompson - then the world's largest ad agency. Copy Test:

My take home pay was $16.20. Yeah. And I copped all the menial jobs - refilling the water bottles, collecting smelly hand-towels and passing out new ones, taking out the rubbish, delivering mail, picking up plates from the printers.

But the best part about working for JWT was the monthly showing of TV spots from their worldwide agencies. I would have paid them to work there just for the privilege of watching an hours worth of some of the best advertising of its day.

NOTE WELL: this ad is 28 years old. They are NOT accepting applications.

Thanks Rick. Fab.

    Cool, thanks for sharing.

It's interesting that you'd have to write persuasively for only 3 of the 8. It seems like most of the test was to simply see who could communicate ideas and situations clearly.

For me, this test gives tremendous insight into why Mal is so twisted.

Either they hired him because he fit what they were looking for, or...

They hired him and JWT warped his brain while he was there.

Either way, the result is the same.

I think Mal ought to do a weekly show or webinar.

Call it "The Malcolm Lambast" and demolish everything and everyone... weekly.

I don't know if this is too obvious as an answer for the copywriter's solutions but... the statement is "write if you want work."

    Is it that obvious???
    Or maybe I am wrong?
