Are you saying you may have stumbled upon an antidote for death? Like, legitimately?

    • One of the most famous and highest response producing headlines in the history of advertising was written by a copywriter called Jim Rutz.

Every A list copywriter wishes they had written it.

The headline - "Read This Or Die!"

I wonder if he got his inspiration from somewhere else?

Vedi Napoli e poi Muori (See Naples and Die)

Sure got the tourists there back in the 1700s.

Commonly misqouted as 'See Rome and Die.' which you may have heard of.

No, I want to find other people to help me find the cure for death.

I've had success investigating many things by myself(doing things that many consider impossible), but death probably will require more ability and talent than any one man has to even have a very small chance of success.

Every other success I've had has been a matter of finding the significant factors in complex systems and altering the relevant forces to obtain the desired results(through proper application of the scientific method rather than what is taught in school).

I suspect death will require restructuring/altering the fundamental processes involved in life. Since my experience in research indicates ineffective thinking, poor judgement, and lack of insight are the present standards, I will have to take the initiative and get the ball rolling if I want to have a chance of living.

I still like the second choice.

Believable or not. It gets your attention.

That's half the battle. Then come up with a great takeaway.

Well maybe just a cure for life. With a few more years for good measure.

The second option is quite short and direct, straight to the point. It is definitely very effective from my point of view.

Are you going to put this on your business cards or are you going to target this at a niche and expect people to respond?

I printed 1000 copies of the fourth attempt and have started getting responses to cards left at semi-random locations. It may be that I left the cards where I would look at them (I'm a statistical anomaly/egghead with an IQ above the 99.9%) or perhaps just getting beginners luck.

I'm thinking of printing a new card along the following designs:

    front side:

    Want to live forever?

    back side:

my initial responses have been individualized forms of the following:

I am a research scientist that has worked in academia and private industry and am now conducting independent research mapping the practical paths to curing aging and determining the present level of progress down each path. I am seeking research assistants (anyone capable of sustained focused effort or exceptionally high intellect) and funding. I can answer any questions you have, through email, phone, or in person. If you want to help cure aging, let me know.

Quaere Verum (snappy handle): I ran across your post on phoenix.craigslist.org and tried to reply but you had already discontinued the ad. SMI2LE, RAW (I intend to live forever or die trying) and alchemy, both oriental and occidental, have occupied my researches for almost two decades. I left open rights to receive emails from others if you wish to contact me. rbush

I like the first and fourth layout. The first presents a question that most people would consider a "no brainer" to answer, and then you follow-up with a real way to pursue that choice. The fact you use "small chance" is a double edged sword. It's great that you're being realistic, making your offer more believable, but it also makes me wonder a bit about the science of what you've been exploring (i.e. if I'm investing then I at least want to know why it has a *better* chance than other options to work).

The fourth tells the viewer, "We've been at this point before, and we can overcome things again." I would probably ditch "make the impossible possible" since it's fairly overdone. Something like "Want to make history?" could work in place. A bit long for a card, though. You might eventually want to transfer it to your marketing materials or website.

I appreciate your area of study - I fully support attempts to extend human life. Do you know about Aubrey de Grey's Methuselah Foundation?

  • Living forever?

Nah thanks. I'd rather find out what's on the other side of the mist, so to speak!

Anyway, take away the frailty and essence of time we live by, and what joy is there in living? None, in my eyes. It's what makes people beautiful - we all have such a relatively short time to live - it makes us value our lives, our friends and family so much more.

I'm absolutely sure that immortality is probably possible (not the magic coo-coo everyone thinks of, given by some witch in a swamp), but simply ridding your body of free-radicals and finding a way to perfect the cell replication process - with our level of science, I imagine it's not far off.

Still, I won't be getting involved - I want to grow old, and pass on. I have my beliefs about the afterlife and so on - I wanna see if they're true!

Anyway, that's my opinion - best of luck with your attempts!
