    20 bucks is high cost?

    Pardon me? Come again...

So let me get this straight, what price do you feel is a fair price to pay for information which could directly help your business? Thruppence perhaps?

This is the trouble with many people and many newbies especially these days. You want everything for next to free. No compensation to the people who can give you the advice you need to help you become a success.

I mean you don't mind swilling back a beer just to piss it up against the wall 20 minutes later for $10.

You don't mind paying for the latest iPhone for $500 plus just so long as you get to look cool amongst your friends.

You don't mind paying $100 or more to eat out at a restuarant just to fill your belly for a few hours.

You don't mind paying $1,000 plus for the latest widescreen plasma flat screen TV just to sit on your backside watching mind numbing sitcoms.

You don't mind paying another few hundred dollars for the latest games console just to sit down and twiddle your thumbs shooting blood and guts everywhere in some make believe fantasy land that's not even real.

You don't mind frivolously pouring money down the drain left, right and center just so long as you get your next emotional fix, yet...

...when it comes to the very thing which can give you all these things, your business - you want to skimp on everything and get it all done for you on the cheap or free if at all possible.

You obviously cannot see the wood for the tree's. You cannot see the fact that your business depends on the best knowledge available in order for it to turn a good profit.

$20 it's not just for an 'eBook'. What you're buying into is somebody else's specialized knowledge which you don't have in your possession. Knowledge which the other individual has which might might have taken them years of hard graft to acquire.

If you can't invest in the knowledge of others where gaps exist in your own knowledge bank to get you to where you want to be... how can you criticize others for selling their specialized knowledge for such a paltry sum of money?

    Very strange.

    • Oxford Publications has the same kudos in the UK as Webster’s has in the USA.

Oxford Phrasal Verbs is not an eBook – it’s a paperback.

Technically it’s designed for people wanting a better grasp of English.

But when you “click to look inside” – on amazon.

      You’ll see it’s a copywriters treasure chest.

$20.00 for 6,000 phrasal (a.k.a. power or action) verbs.

Works out around 0.33 cents a verb.

Impossible to argue about the value.

P.S. But if price is an issue – other sellers are offering it for $12.45.

    In John Carlton sales letters!

I once went through the many Carlton sales letters I've saved over the years and created one heck of a list... of both action phrases and modified nouns.

    Here's some examples:

    Action Phrases

    • elbowing your way into the jet-stream of a market
    • entering the jet-stream of hungry clients desperate for your services
    • obliterating obstacles and creating success where before there was only chaos and questions
    • put your existing biz on hyper-overdrive and finally start sucking up the major fungolas that have been eluding you
    Modified Nouns
    • nail it down in your brain exercises
    • an automatic feeding frenzy of profit
    • concise, packed-solid one stop resource
    • gushing river of desperate clients
    Fun, eh?

    Steve,

Solid pure awesomeness! I just ordered. Here's another, similar resource I found about a year ago:

    Mr. Lover,

I did something similar once. It was off to a great start and then somehow it turned into a real mess. I probably still have it on this hard drive, but... Eh... I should have organized it better. I was also collecting metaphors and idioms and such in the same document. Maybe I should have tried keeping it simple.

One thing I will say, though, I don't regret the exercise. Kind of like building Halbert-style bullet and headlines swipes on index cards -- you (or at least I) get more out of digging around, writing otu and organizing the damn thing than actually using it once it's done.

So dude, what kind of pleading is it gonna take me to coax a copy of this Carlton list out of ya?

    Here's another good reference:

Words that Sell by Richard Bayan.

It has over 75 lists of words and phrases, nicely organized. Bayan was an advertising copywriter and copy chief for over 20 years.
