I'm starting a thread to discuss the importance of "dots." You know, these things: "."

I've recently noticed others posting "dot" posts. So I thought I'd start my own.

The only thing I really know for sure about these "dot" posts is they're a stone bee*otch to try and click on with your mouse.

Is that supposed to be a way to limit access to them? Like a form of censorship or something?

How dare you question the dots?

They're a necessity when writing anything...

    I've used them for years...

      I question not the dots.

I question the dot master. He who controls the lowly dot's very existence.

And, hold on ... this just in: another dot post just bit the dust. Erased as if it never existed.

      The dot master is nigh.

      Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunnnnn!

P.S. And before aspersions are cast, I'm sober as a sailor.

P.P.S. That is how you use that idiom, is it not?

    Kenny,

What is this STFU you speak of?

Where does the accent fall on that word? Is it: Sithfooo? Or is it: SithFooo?

Or is it pronounced the way my dog sounds when he ralphs up the grass he insists on eating? Which I can't really spell.

I can attach a sound file of Spot in action if you'd like.

      KC,

Sadly, I can no longer satisfy your request for an audio file of Spot retching.

When I wasn't looking he aspirated the umbrella/parasol from my boat drink, took one deep breath ... then floated away on the evening breeze.

We chased him for blocks in the Suburban, but a gust grabbed him and took him up, up and away. Much like the launch of a space shuttle, Spot has broken the surly bonds of Earth. But with an under-trained commander aboard.

Heck, he wouldn't even sit on command.

May God rest his soul. Or collapse his umbrella and he fall from the sky.

Ken, I really can't talk right now. <sniffle>

My friend two subdivisions over just called and said they found Spot's polka-dot collar in their backyard. Gaily-colored umbrella papier-mache surrounding it, in a pool of vomit-soaked grass.

Nary a toe nail or tooth of him to be found.

Oh, the humanity! (think Lakehurst, NJ)

I just can't speak anymore on the subject tonight. Funeral arrangements to make and all.

        Bwaaaaaaaaa! <hick-hick> Bwwaaaaaaaaaaaa!!

            Thanks, Pusa ...

Spot loved to swim ... as you well know. You must remember that summer decades ago off the coast of Galveston when he cavorted with Mitzi, your beloved Shih Tzu, and that school of Ocean Monkeys.

I’ll never forget the way ol' Sol glinted off their dorsal fins. It was blinding, wasn't it? And off to the side was dear Glen Campbell snapping shots of the whole spectacle, cavorting through the sand like a hirsute Annie Leibovitz.

It all spins by so fast. How do we grasp what's important in this chaos? How do we hold fast to our heaving bosom the creatures, both sea and land-based, who make our lives so complete?

Wait a sec ... that’s Ellen’s booker calling. Got to go.

P.S. Oh, and Mal ... I’ll be by on Sunday at eleven to drop the kids off. Please hide the bottles up in the cupboard. For once.

I'm big on the old ellipsis myself - big brother of dot ...

BTW in Chinese the ellipsis is six dots.

Bifurcated by a triad of hyphens, if this crowd is any indication...

Ooops. There I went and did it myself. Drat!

Because, my dear boy, much as with a horrible car accident you must see if the bodies strewn about still have all their parts intact.

There's a certain something no human being can look away from when it all comes violently apart.

Wait ... is that a partial arm weighing my windshield wiper down?
