Question about pursuing web content clients

Hello folks,

I am thinking about approaching website owners and sending them a short sample rewrite of their content, in an attempt to leave them wanting more. Do many of you use this tactic to gain clients? If you do, what markets do you target? Are some markets better to target than others?

    I've never done this but I have a friend who will find websites that have poorly written content and email the owner and very gently tell them that she could do a much better job. She has actually gotten a few long-lasting clients like this.
