This is all solely based on my opinion as a person with several tattoos. I admit, I didn't watch the video.

Who are you targeting? People getting tattoos or tattoo artists? Many people I know with several tattoos don't really like stencil tatts, and many artists I know don't really like doing other peoples' work on their clients.

The Celebrity Tattoos aspect doesn't do anything for me, as a tattoo enthusiast myself. I'm interested in the community aspect advertised below, but it's lost in the "get your very own stencil right here" messaging at the top. Are you selling stencils? Are you selling the community membership?

Definitely work on clarifying your offering and figuring out who you're targeting. I'm not in the same market as your teen tramp stamp market or your barbed-wire bicep dudes, though we have some of the same interests - namely quality work from good artists.

Your FAQ has a lot of interesting information that you should highlight up front. You have educational eBooks? You can help people find the perfect tattoo, whether they're a first timer or looking for the perfect image to finish off their full sleeve? Show people you know your ink, and you might have more success.

Totally agreed with. I'm a tattoo enthusiast myself, and owner of a tattoo niche blog (no income stream from it whatsoever).
As a tattoo enthusiast I can clearly see right from the start that you might not be that well informed in this particular industry. Perhaps you are, but you need to make that visible.
Make your offer stand out right out front, some might not have my 'healthy' attention span to look for the actual offer.
Emphasize on the benefits you're giving your clients, make 'em pop up a bit (perhaps bigger check-marks) ...all everybody cares is what's in it for them.

      Cheers mate, keep it clean!

    • Hi Louie,

Angie and Calin made some excellent points.

My view is you make it way too difficult to join the site (it's quite tough to see how you can join - particularly when you scroll down - you miss the "Join Now" at the top of the site and it's tiny at the foot of the site).

I know it's also there under all the "options" but the buyer isn't sure if they're just getting that one "option" or all of them.

Then it's a 3 step process which should be a lot simpler.

      Without the huge "barrier"...

...asking for the emails before you give the price details (bet you're losing a huge % of conversions by insisting on this).

It works on a squeeze page.

But this is the main site.

Make it easy to sign up. Explain exactly what you get. With no hassles.

      A big "JOIN NOW" button.

      When it's pressed...

It restates the major benefits with a compelling close and irresistible offers on the membership prices.

      Steve

P.S. Yes, I found the price on the FAQ - but don't make people search that hard. Because they won't.

Do you have any data backing up the idea that people want tattoos that celebrities have? Something tells me nobody would want to copy a tattoo by a celebrity because its not unique. Tattoos are generally something you think is unique to you. I don't think people actively go out and get a tattoo based on what their favorite celebrity has.

Unless im wrong about the celebrity thing, I think you should change your approach. At the end of the day you are selling a $27 a month membership to a site with a database with a bunch of tattoo designs. Your biggest competition is google image search. Most people who want a tattoo generally have a general idea of what they want.

Also think of the demographic here. Most people who get tattoos don't exactly have a lot of money. Asking someone to sign up for a membership to browse tattoo designs is asking a lot. You gotta really show off awesome designs to get people wanting to know what else you have in your design data base.

You're making some assumptions about tattoo enthusiasts that aren't necessarily true. There are different market segments, to be sure - some want what's "in" - those are typically the ones that will be lasering and/or covering that tattoo later in life. Then there's the market full of people who'd eagerly go into debt to finance their body art. I have a quarter sleeve tattoo on my right arm that is as of yet unfinished, and the existing work already cost over $200. Imagine the cost of a full sleeve or a back piece! Then there are your people who care about art and quality. They may have an interesting mix of stencils (pre-drawn art you can pick out of a book) and original art.

I think those and the go-into-debt-for-art guys are probably the intended market. The ones that don't want to scour through Google for the just-right image, and the ones who'd appreciate access to a group of people worldwide who can recommend good artists. Trust me, you don't want to have someone you don't know and who's not been vouched for etching things permanently into your skin. But if I were a member of this site and decided I wanted to go to Europe and get a commemorative tattoo, perhaps this membership would come in handy if I could speak to other travelers and Europeans about the best artists in their areas via the forums.

This is about quality ink, not about the latest celebrity fad. I think that's a good angle to try. Perspective of a (heavily) tattooed person, take it for what it's worth.

The call to action isn't really clear or prominent.

All there is is a little "join now" button at the top of the page, alongside a bunch of navigation buttons.

The lack of a prominent call to action button somewhere on the page makes this not really a direct-response piece.

I think you can get programmers to insert clickable buttons into your videos. If you inserted a join now button at the end of that video, it would improve conversions I think. And a BIG "join now" button somewhere on the page... Not somewhere on the navigation bar, somewhere really prominent, like the middle of the page.

As it stands right now I'm not even sure the concept of "conversion rate" really applies to this page all that well, because there's just not a clear call to action to respond TO.

Show real tattoos used on people in the video for better examples. At first, I thought it was tattoos for kids you would get from a cracker jack box or something. And the video kept pausing to load, which always kills conversions. Use Amazon to host you video and that should fix the problem.

The design is very good though, except you should remove links in the header and go with a long form sales letter design. Make everything flow like a slippery slide, from one point to the next.

Some hot chicks getting tattoos would also be cool, but I don't know if it would help boost sales

    Nice site!

I'm not sure how well videos do on a page rather than written copy, but I hate when I click a page and someone is talking and I see no clear way to shut them up. I usually exit the page within 3 seconds if I don't see a pause button, or mute bottom or some stand-out, clear way to shut it off.

If other people are like me, this could be why your page doesn't convert much.

Also consider where your traffic is coming from. Is it targeted traffic? Most of my traffic comes directly from my free art tutorials on Youtube. Directed traffic. They go to my site already liking my teaching. They go there already interested in learning art.

I use careful keywords, so that I get targeted traffic from Google. I don't want people landing on my site if they were looking for how to use illustrator or flash or to see naked chicks, because they aren't going to convert well.

Be sure to get targeted traffic. If you do any advertising, advertise for targeted traffic.
