Hi folks

Apologies if this is posted elsewhere (I did try searching).

I am not after a great sms copy of 160 characters from you guys that would be too cheeky lol.

I just need some advice please on where I should be looking for good sms copy, the closest I can think of is ad copy for google adwords?

Is there a wso or ebook on copy for sms as I am finding it hard to think of something attention grabbing for selling my web design service.

I have ewenmack's great thread here: http://www.warriorforum.com/offline-...5k-2-days.html

However that is aimed more at craigslist etc, any ideas how I should construct a similar message that constrasts my service with my competitors but in 160 characters?

thanks in advance

Can't imagine you up some copy without know what you're selling or what you're trying to achieve.

Answer these first, and then we can give you some advice.

    • Hi Ben thanks for replying, sorry I didn't want to come across as someone who just wanted to be spoon fed and have their copy virtually done for them but I would be grateful to you and anyone else who wants to look at my draft copies.

I am trying to sell my web design service to small biz owners. Will post some of my feeble sms ad copy in a minute :-)
  • Here are my lame attempts at good sms copy :-)

"Hi there I just came across your yellow pages listing and noticed that you don't have a website listed. For £150 I can create you a 5 page website. Reply to this text now with your email address and I will send you a FREE live demo of your new website. Nick. To stop receiving messages text STOP."

"Hi there I just came across your yellow pages listing and a light bulb went off in my head. Call me if you want to talk about it. Nick"

"5 PAGE WEBSITE ONLY £150. This offer is only valid until 5pm today. Want more details? Reply to this text with your email address for a FREE live demo of your new website. Unsubscribe? Text STOP"

    • This might work:

      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Everything you've been told or directed to, is wrong.

    Here's why...

The most important piece in the mix is missing.

This piece is, "what do you know about your target clients?"

    It all starts there.

Then the right message can be crafted.

Until then you are playing archery with a blindfold on.

Want to share what you know about these elusive prospects?

    Best,
    Ewen

P.S. The Craigslist ad I wrote you referenced, was made for those who are looking to buy web design. You are likely to come unstuck if you use that method to those who aren't actively looking
    to buy web design.
    • [ 2 ] Thanks
  • Thanks for your feedback Ewen and making things a lot clearer to me, much appreciated :-)

My target clients are one man band small businesses that are mainly in contruction type industries e.g. plasterers, electricians, plumbers, builders etc.

They traditionally advertise in yellow pages, yell.com and the local paper.

They are easy to get hold of as their office is their truck or van and they tend to have a cell phone as their primary contact details.

They don't have a website because they have never got round to it but know they should have one like any other business.

    Thanks again

    Nick
