Which type of sales page converts better for software?

Hey,

I was wondering which type of salespage would convert better for software, more specifically Internet marketing software?

Long form sales letter like this: Video Commission Formula
Or more feature based, and slick layout like this: SEnuke XCr SEO Software - The World's First Crowdsourced Link Building System

I want to know which one would convert better/make me more money in the long run?

I know some of you might say split test but I'll do that down the line. I want to know which one would work better today as I am planning to being working on the sales page :-)

Also, do you know if the salespages mentioned above are custom or if ProfitsTheme can give me something like that?

Thanks!

It depends, but for the most part, the SEnuke page is going to be better in my opinion. I don't know about anyone else here, but I consider all sales letters spammy. I know that is not the case always, but 90% of the time, it is. So for the most part, those only lead to googling more about the offer, seeing it is BS, and moving on. Those web2.0 looking bubbly pages do well, especially for software.

Look around at game engine websites, other forms of software websites. Note what makes you like those pages, and apply it to yours. That's just my opinion, though.

edit: that link you just added to your sig, the squeeze page it is on, is going to do very well to gain a list. Very, very well.

For a long feature set chunky style can work better. If the software product breaks new ground a long form can work well since you have to explain the new innovation. The rule is tell your whole sales story.

Keep in mind you can use both on the same site...a section for short with other areas for long copy.

    Hi Edwin,

I would have to say a video sales letter like WP Member Champ | Best Membership Site Pluginwould be a very good approach to take.

When it comes to software, there is nothing better than a short demo video that shows off the key features and benefits of your solution.

Viewers get to see it in action and just how simple it is to use.

Notice on the sales letter, that there is also a section for those that don't want to watch the video. It briefly states the key features and benefits of the software.

Hope you found this post useful and I would be interested in which direction you eventually go in, so please feel free to send me a message.

    Regards,

    Azu.

The key factor here for deciding on long or feature page is the traffic.

Where is the traffic coming from and how are they getting to the page? Are you buying paid advertisement? If so the feature page would most likely be your best bet because the traffic would be 'pre-qualified'. There's no point tying up your customers time with a long sales page if they already know what to expect from your product.

However in this case.. you said your offer was "internet marketing software". If it doesn't have anything to do with something people can relate to easily such as SEO, you're probably going to need to use a long sales page to explain what your offer is about.

    Edwin,

consider the relationship between the market and your product. Remember, sales letters are as long as they need to be.

If what you are selling is something known far and wide, then it's going to be pretty useless to try and sell them on it being something new. For example, you wouldn't make a long sales letter on TVs, would you?

No, because people already know what the heck a TV is. So if your software is something that's been seen before, consider not making a long form sales letter, and instead focus purely on benefits/features and on your USP/what makes you better than anyone out there.

However, if you're bringing something new and fresh (and especially if it's a high ticket product), then inform and sell your prospect as much as possible. The more you tell, the more you sell.

This is a great topic and one I have been struggling with myself. I believe the sales pages look cheezie and the other site style much more professional, but I know that is my opinion and don't want it to get in the way of conversion.

I am going to be selling an Stock Option course soon and this is killing me. I prefer a more formal site, including monthly membership and possible forum section.

Just cutting my teeth, but this is clearly something I need to decide now.

The key principles in selling software is to DEMONSTRATE the
software in your copy and also give away trial copies. Software
should really sell itself. The real challenge is providing support
so you can make the software easy to use.

Keep in mind to sell results and not process.

    Edwin,
I would pick a very well sold product and try to make a similar sales page like them. after that, I would try to get another well sold product and make another sales page. Then I would split test and pick the winning one.

    Thanks.
