Do You Show Samples?

Hey Copywriters,

I was wondering if any of you copywriters show
"samples" of previous work to those who request it.

I wanted to get your opinions on the subject.

  • LOL.... who would hire someone without looking at samples?

    • There are a number of copywriters here on the forum that won't.
    • I have mixed opinions on it.

The majority of "samples" can easily just be taken or claimed as original work.

Also, I'd prefer to call it a "portfolio" Makes it sound more professional in my opinion.

I've had people contact me just based on a post I made without having to send a portfolio over. It's just like companies who "interview" someone before hiring them. Even after interviewing what seems like a great candidate, it's always a risk to hire someone to do a job, because you never know how well they're actually going to perform. Some people have 30 years of experience doing business (my old landlord for example) and they're absolutely terrible at what they do.

The only reason she's still in business is because her husband keeps fronting her enough money to stay afloat so she doesn't come home as often.
  • I asked the same question a while back, and the conclusion in my case is not very often. I show the 8 figures I've made for my clients instead. A sample doesn't mean squat as long as you have a track record.
