How important are images and video in a sales page?

I have heard some silly stats like videos increase conversion rates by 300% and images help alot too. Is this really true? Im of the mindset that if the copywriter is compelling enough. Videos and images are not necessary to retain the attention of the reader. Please let me know your thoughts on this.

    Yes, both can increase conversions.

Numerous split tests have been done comparing written sales letters with video sales letters, and video wins more often.

Regarding images, use them to support what the copy is saying. Images with compelling captions sometimes win split tests.

As a user I see a lot of sales pages the more I know about the person that I am buying from the more likely I would be to buy. I like to see a lot of great content.

  • As Alex says,

VSLs tend to outperform sales letters. But you've got to look at the niche and who you're selling to. And actually more often than you'd think, sales letters DO beat VSLs.

Pictures on the other hand, will almost always increase your page's performance - as long as the picture(s) is relevant and enticing. You're trying to draw out emotions and desires here.

A weight loss product benefits massively when they put up pictures like before/afters. Why? Because it makes the prospect think "Oh man, I'm SO fat. But look at these guys! They were where I am now, and now look at them! If they can do it, so can I!"

But it has to be compelling and relevant. Be choosy. Don't grab some stupid stock images to fill the space. That'll never work. But yeah, pictures definitely work.

Agreed. Images and sometimes videos will always increase your conversions. Pure text salesletter are just too plain and your readers will very likely lose interest after a while UNLESS your text is extremely compelling.

Relevant and eye-catching images will help retain the attention of your readers.
