So I was talking with a business owner today about their website, and he was saying how they spent thousands of dollars to get a website designer to make it look all pretty and flashy blah blah blah.
Problem is the site is not anywhere close to being optimized to generate leads, or even convey a compelling message as to why visitors should do business with the company.
A website that cost a lot, and generates little in return. A common problem.
So I was just thinking...
What would be a good analogy as to why you wouldn't hire a website designer (that has no marketing / direct response background) to design a website, or even design just regular marketing materials for that matter.
Can anyone suggest a good analogy?
You wouldn't hire a __________ to do your ___________, so why would you hire a graphic designer to ___________?I think I heard a great analogy of this a long time ago, maybe someone can provide one they use themselves to get the point across to frustrated business owners that say they already have "a guy who designs their marketing stuff?"
PS - By the way, I do always return back to the fact that their current marketing is doing little to generate sales, which is why they are speaking with me, but a quick analogy to use in the conversation which will simplify the need for a different "approach" is what I'm looking for.
