Is a 2% Conversion Too Much to Ask?

Hey everyone,

I am fairly new when it comes to copywriting, however I just wanted your opinion on something really quick.

I have a great ebook which I am selling for an awesome low price of $9.

All the traffic I get is targeted to the offer and I get about 400 visitors/day (a culmination of tons of articles written)

Right now I am converting at about 0.6%-0.8%.

My sales message is divided into two pages. The first page acts more like a presell (the CTR to the second page is about 86%).

My visitors are spending an average of about 2 and a half minutes on that second page - which is the main sales message.

Do you think that a 2% conversion rate is possible with this type of low priced offer? I know it is a good product and I have not gotten any refund requests either.

It's possible. You may be getting traffic from the
wrong sources though - try running PPC ads and
see if you see a bump.

    2%?

    You bet.

But the quality of the product, the price, and the refund rate have little to do with your conversions.

Look at your traffic sources, sales process, and copy -- that's where you need to make improvements.

    Hello, Spirit!
Keep it up and you will be fine.
This is a common concern among people promoting their
services online. Some individuals attract tons of traffic
but fail to convert. One guy I spoke to, who is about
to hire me to do his marketing, said that he had
started advertising on a particular site and his traffic
skyrocketed by more than 400% in a short period of time.
Only problem is, nothing came out of it.
To make it short, make sure you establish your presence
on the right website and attact the right sources.
And yes, 2% for a beginner is not bad at all.
If at some point you start selling something for $100 and
get a 2% conversion rate, you will be able to cover more
than half of your bills. Good luck!

The price may make a difference. It is possible there is a "disconnnect" between the offer and your price. $9 is next to nothing, and to me, I wonder why it is so cheap. Without offering your sales page for critique, I am not sure if you've addressed this effectively in your copy or not.

Bob Serling once said that .5% is typical for the average internet "sales page", so I guess you are ahead of the curve in that regard.

There's the possibility that your keywords/traffic is not targeted, but the first thing I'd look at would be your sales page.

There's a lot of factors involved here and without a link to your sales page we can only speculate at best.

Thanks a lot for the replies everyone! The truth is that I would love to get someone to critique my sales page. The problem is that I've had people steal free guides I was offering and turn around and sell them as their own when I've given my URL out on forums.

Would any of you experienced copywriters be interested in taking a quick look at it if I PM you the URL?

As for my sources of traffic, I can definitely see how article traffic may not be the most targeted form of traffic. I am currently building up my working capital and will set a budget of about $100 for a PPC campaign.

I am also working on creating a following on twitter which should create some targeted traffic.

I don;t know your product, but judging from the optin rate for
the squeeze page and the low price 2% conversion should be
    easily achievable.

But, you CAN have low conversion rate if you are selling a product
that people are interested in but not willing to pay for. For example
recipe products often suffer from this predicament.

Thanks a lot for the reply! Yeah, there is a chance it may be in that category. I will do some more testing with different content (I may try and improve my call to action since they are spending an average of 2 and a half minutes on the main sales letter)

And if the conversion rate does not increase I will just leave it as is and move on to the next project.

It could be that the niche that you are in are full of people who click but don't buy. One such niche would be sex or dating.

There are niches which are low on clicks but perform better in terms of conversions - health problems, for example.

Yeah that's a great point. That isn't my niche but it is closely related which may be the reason for the low conversion rate.

2% is more than possible when you sell a product for that price... But I guess the conversion should matter the most in the main sales page...

Oh but of course you should be talking about targeted traffic, either organic or PPC or other source... Otherwise it could be difficult to get those 2%... But with targeted traffic yes, it is more than possible...

    2% is definitely do-able.

    I've just launched a new $10 product and it's converting at 4.4%.

Post your salespage in the Copywriting forum and get some help with it. It really helped me.

Just because one starter has reached 4% with a $10 product does not mean every else with a $9 product has to reach the same conversion.
Then all products on the Internet priced at $5 should have a conversion of 7% or so.
He'll have to look at the copy and visitor traffic. Spending 2 minutes on a second page appears quite a lot.

Also, try to have it all in one page, the more clicks you ask people to do, the more people you loose.
