Just a quick tip...

If you're an up-and-coming copywriter looking to get more work, hit up guys you respect and just talk to them.

I can't speak for others, but I get leads every now and then that simply don't have the budget to shell out $5 - 10k + royalties.

In these situations, I need to refer work to other writers. And I don't have the time to hunt them out for a client when I'm not getting anything out of the deal.

So who do I send the work to?

Guys who've contacted me, have proven themselves as cool people, and have shown me they KNOW THEIR SHIT.

The last point's crucial... I won't refer work to a hack.

In this way I've been able to help one guy land a position that eventually led to him working with a division of Agora, as well as instantly double another guy's fees.

I don't get paid anything for it... I just like to help out people who are serious about being badass copywriters.

And I know I'm not the only guy doing it. I've been fed work by guys higher on the "totem pole" than me, and I've also had a lot of my colleagues do the same for others.

This can be a hard business to break into. And it's ten times harder if you don't get out there and connect with other people (a lesson that took me way too long to learn).

So if there's someone you resonate with out there, why not hit them up? Ask them for tips on what they think of your work. Be prepared for them to ignore you, politely decline due to time restrictions, or tear your work apart and tell you you suck.

But it's also a great way to build connections and get more work. When people know you're interested in being a great writer and are in this for more than the money, they're usually only too happy to help.
