I wish he'd gotten a voice actor. Until he was telling the car flipping part, I had a hard time believing his story because he was so monotone. I felt like the misery portion could have been toned down quite a bit, and that their continuity editor could have seen that he used his left arm/hand in the video immediately after the injury.

I started tuning out when he started recounting all the ways he couldn't do the app thing - me, me, me, I, I, sounding like a lot of needless whining. Especially since I continually see this supposedly crushed/ruined arm being used. There's a disconnect because he spent so much time focused on it.

He doesn't really get to the benefits or what appeals to me until about 6 minutes in. Over all I feel like it could have been cut by half, the trauma story could be reduced to a few lines and repositioned to be something along the lines of "how a horrible accident changed my life for the better".

And honestly, I stopped watching about 9 and a half minutes.

Not even funny. But if you'd said "the first 6 seconds made me want to take a dump..." or "the first 6 seconds made me want to do Number 2s..."....or even "the first 6 seconds made me want to crap my pants..." it might have worked.

        Must do better.

Well, he started to get me with the accident story, then lost me again with all the stuff about his arm, especially when I saw him using it throughout the rest of the video. Granted I don't think I'm his demo.

  • David being able to take a dunk is a really good thing. Ever get blocked up. I know a lady who had to go to the hospital to unblock herself. So that being said. The injury issue was a tad to much I laughed with the guy with a body casts. I think it is effective. I dont see enough attention being paid to app development. Put in front of the right group and I think you got a winner. In fact I want to see the WSO now.

That's what I was hoping you could provide some insight on - why it's converting so well. I don't know, I have no idea how well it is converting, but I take your word for it...

Personally I didn't offer an opinion on the video, but if it is truly crushing it right now, it would be great to hear some wisdom as to what exactly about the video is converting so highly, so we could all learn and take that knowledge moving forward.

Mainly because it's being seen by people who already see the speaker as credible. In other words: warm traffic. From his list or other respected "gurus".

I wanted to see what people said first...before commenting. But yes - this thing went very well. I just asked the guys behind it for the figures. We'll see.

My opinion - it's brilliant. I must admit that I read the book before seeing this so I was already "hooked" if you like. But I thought the story and the hospital stuff very powerful. Yes he's not a pro voiceover guy but I think that adds to the credibility. Especially as they change the tone now and again - he doesn't read straight through. Yes it lagged a bit at the end and perhaps Chad could have added more excitement to the read at the end...but for me...I thought it great stuff.

Some of you guys forget - you're not the target audience.

I thought the lead was pretty good.

It captures peoples emotions right off the bat. See, when it comes to creating apps - it's about creating it. It's about having an idea built. It's pure ego - it's not about making money.

It does grab greed later but it starts off emotionally, and that's key with ANY ad.

I don't believe I ever ripped it or even came close to saying it was horrible. If I was on this guy's list, it might be a different story and I might not have had the same impression. That said, I don't know this guy from a hole in the ground and I'm not very interested in app development, which is the whole basis of my opinion. Even if it's crushing, I think it could be made more powerful by being cut down. Rick's video is a good example, even though he rambled, because that guy felt more genuine to me.

Just personal preference from someone not in his market, I suppose. Doesn't mean I think it doesn't work or there's nothing it can teach.

This is an excellent time to have one of those intellectual discussions everyone keeps bitching about, but those oft-mentioned egos seem to preclude anything aside from "you're wrong and you're dumb if you don't see that".

If it converts well, then I have no idea what makes a VSL work.

Yes, I'm new too this, but I got a response from that Power4Home video that was posted. We know that kicked ass.

I'm not the target market. I live in a flat in the city centre. I have no chance to do what he's talking about. I was still thinking about it, though. IMO, that just hooked me.

I also saw another video for Quantum Jumping, and that just hooked me too. I could feel the "hmm, I should sign up for his newsletter", despite the fact that's not me, I don't need his theories on positive thinking. Yet I still felt it.

    This, I felt nothing.

Maybe it completely kills. For me, though...

I like it when I can feel that buying impulse even when the product is nothing to do with me. I'm no impulse buyer. I read as many reviews and get as many opinions as I can before taking the plunge. So when I feel it as strong as with the aforementioned 2, I think that makes it good.

Sorry if it's a bit untechnical. And sorry if it's a bit rambling, I've only just drunk my coffee. But they're my thoughts.

No more ridiculous than the way different English-speaking countries pronounce different words. For instance the Kiwis say "fush" for "fish". The Aussies say "marone" for "maroon". The Scots and the Irish and Northerners pronounce things different to the Home Counties. That's the beauty of English - it's evolving all the time - and borrowing from many different languages. In fact the way you Brits pronounce some common French words you've adapted might "sound ridiculous" to them as well.

Next you'll be whinging about American spelling.

And in case you haven't noticed...this is an American site and the main target audience for Internet Marketing is...drumroll...the USA.

I've learned to type in American. Spelling is no problem now, although I do sometimes write the wrong word when it comes to some of the longer ones. Editing catches them, though.

But this one doesn't make sense and I keep hearing it.

I mean, it's understandable having a difference between, say: vitamin pr advertisement, they're differences in pronunciation. This just seems like inventing a new word, though...

Well..."niche" is pronounced three different ways even in the U.S. None of them are wrong/right. Depends where you're from. Hear them here - niche - Wiktionary

Incidentally the word comes from the French "nicher" - "to nest". More contemporary use of nicher is "to hang out". Voila.

I love the videos where, suddenly, the person starts talking about the UNDERGROUND AFFILIATE NETWORKS where people are making billions of dollars and laughing at THE GURUS.

I can't stop laughing when I find those videos, I absolutely love them. They always hack into their forum, make some master program that siphons all the money from some undefinable source and it makes them rich, and I can be rich too for just $30.

I almost think they're ::gasp:: lying.

I started watching, stopped after about 10 seconds. Initial thoughts were "yawn!" Guys voice was dull, sounded like another generic offer.

Scrolled down to see what others had said, saw your opinion, and decided to try again. Well, safe to say it had me hooked. Might not have been the smoothest voice acting, or followed the 'golden' copywriting principles all the way, but it kept me entertained, watching until the end, and wanting a copy of the book.

    I'd say it's a success.

Yeah, I come at this admittedly from too story-heavy a perspective. I am still trying to get the ol' screenwriting teacher's voice out of my system as I watch videos. I maintain that it can be cut significantly and still hit the pertinent points, but maybe the slightly unpolished thing was what he was going for? Further proof that it doesn't have to be perfect to sell like hell

Client of mine has tested this extensively. His rough and ready vids - with "ums & ahs"/background noise/ shaky camera etc outpull his slicker productions every time.

Because I have a client who wants to spend (in my view) way too much money on a slick "Hollywood" production.

I sorta guessed they had some sort of success. I personally believe that as long as you grab them emotionally right from the beginning - you don't have to worry about sales.

Although I do wonder if this launch was just luck or if they really did make the entire thing crappy - including the site on purpose.

P.S. - Was the target market college peeps? The music hints at it. And if they did then I think that also contributed.
