I am curious, is copywriting strictly a skill that can be learned and mastered by anyone?

Or is it something that requires talent and either you have it or you don't?

It's definitely something anyone can learn. Just like sales, you can be incredibly shy at the start of training, then learn how to connect with people and create rapport problem-free.

Copywriting is less about being a language master and more about doing research, understanding your prospects and writing to them in a relatable way. Study a lot, write a lot and you'll eventually get better at it.

  • It does require one very specific talent.

    Excitement.

Which is the ability to open up a blank word document.

And not say "F*** what do I say on this?"

Instead you just smile and start writing - with practise and study it all comes good in the end.

Smiling has been shown to temporarily reduce IQ.

Copywriting has a single objective: sell.

This is an objective that you can reach through training.

Of course, IQ and native language proficiency are required. So, that's your nature.

      The rest is nurture.

But anyway, don't smile. Making money's not fun. Neither is spending money. If you're writing copy, you're working. Play later, bro.

There is no such thing as natural talent. No one is born being great at things. It all comes down to putting in the work.

You know when your selling something?

And the client has bought and you are both genuinely happy that's it's a great deal. A true "win win" situation.

It's difficult not to smile when this happens.

There is a natural aptitude some have that make it easier, but there is no question copywriting is a learned skill. As is all things marketing

I wouldn't say anyone can learn it. But you don't have to born with a quill pen in your hand to do a creditable job in copywriting.

To take another field. I know people who have crreditable paper qualificatiions in engineering subjects who'd be virtually useless at practical tasks in that field. No matter how much they were instructed and in whatever ways. They lack some kind of natural bent or inclination.
