Anyone heard of IDM (Institute of Direct & Digital Marketing)?

My girlfriend's mother just got a few brochures through the post, due to her managerial position at a major automobile company head office.

It was from the IDM (not going to bother writing the whole damn name out every time). I just wondered what anyone's experiences with this company had been?

Some of their courses are a touch on the pricey side, and before I begin seriously considering signing up (it's the only recognised degree/qualification in marketing etc in the UK - also internationally recognised), I wanted to know if anyone had noticed any benefits from having this.

One concern I have is that these qualifications are geared more towards people looking for an office job somewhere in a pre-existing company. As I want to remain predominantly freelance, I don't want to shell out money for qualifications I won't need.

So, any experience with the IDM and their courses? If so, any strong tangible benefits you've found from applying?

I have not heard of it. The fact that it has been around 25 years does not mean too much either.

The Marketing Qualification body that every company in the UK has heard of is CIM

Marketing qualifications, training and membership from The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM)

Their stuff means things to Marketing Directors which is why their courses are taught directly in Colleges as Day Release or Evening classes.

Not sure Freelancers actually fork out for these courses though as they are geared to corporates who usually foot the bill.
