I have a travel site and I know travel is a very tough market but my site was on page 1 position 1 on yahoo, google and bing for almost a year, I got good traffic but a small percentage of viewers came back.

I know people never book anything the first time they visit a site because they are looking for information. I guess my question is what in the world do I say to them to get them to come back to my site to make there bookings or at least bookmark my booking partners to go to them and book. It isn't like they are booking through no name companies as one of the companies I go through is Travelocity.

Do you try and capture their email address with a promise of something like...

...Be The First To Know About Specials + Last Minute Deals.

If you have a list, you can email it to get them back.

If you don't have a list you are floating in cyberland without an engine.

I have had a sign up box for newsletters and stuff like that but in the 6 months it has been up I have had only a couple people sign up. For a while I thought there must be something wrong with the sign up box so I had a couple friends sign up and it worked so I am not sure why people aren't signing up.

Show me the URL and I'll advise on why they may not be signing up.

        It won't be easy.

Give them something worth a lot... for almost
        nothing.

You'll have to offer something of real value. Not B.S.
        value.

Thus, in part, the term "customer acquisition cost".

        It's going to cost you.

MP3 players mailed to their address has worked in some
niches, usually with a credit card number captured
on file in order to pay a modest processing fee. $2 or $2.95
seems to work... it can almost pay for the widget and
postage if you buy enough of the things I reckon.

Monthly prize giveaways can work. The prizes have
        to be decent.

The last minute deal newsletter idea is not bad, but
I'm sure it's been done to death in your niche.

How about a social contest like Namecheap always does? It might help.

Well this is what I see for your opt-in on my screen and I visited your site with the latest version of Chrome.

And you may want to switch this site over to WordPress as having to scroll for your main post on the home page just makes you look like a travel site wannabe.

This is odd because I use this site that looks at your website from many different browsers, and systems and it never showed me anything like this, I will have to contact the software company I am using and see what they have to say. I have also looked at my home page on many of my friends computers and don't see this either.

Also why would I want to switch over to wordpress, I know a lot of people who use it and do nothing but complain about this not working and that not working. The software I am using is a lot like dream weaver but a lot easier to use, it can't do as many things as dream weaver does but I don't need it to.

That's how it looks for me on both Firefox and Chrome.

Marks, your site screams 2007 in design and presentation.

And a lot of the elements of your site cannot be viewed by visitors.

You wanted to know why you don't get return visitors or opt-ins and we have uncovered it for you.

If you do not upgrade your site, you can expect more of the same.

out of this world I have already changed the looks of this site 4 times already in 3 years all based on what people from this site has recommended. This is what I put together less then a year ago and everyone then said it was much better then the way my site looked. so tell my why less then a year has gone by and now you think it looks 2007 ish when the people from here liked it so much 9 months ago. To say it looks 2007 ish and not say why means nothing to me. You say things can't be viewed but why can I see them on firefox using windows 7 and my friends who I ask to look at my site all the time using google and google chrome say they see everything fine, I also have friends who are using Mac's and they say they see everything fine. I was told that my opt in box doesn't look right and I am looking into it but have stated I checked out a site that shows what my site looks like on many different systems and browsers and almost everything looks fine. So telling me what you told me does me no good it is like telling me my answer on a test is wrong but not telling me why and not telling me what the answer is.

K hut, I put the little text box in the top middle of my site because when I first put my new design up I went from page one position one on google to about page 3. I know google likes content so when I got ride of it I dropped like a rock so I decided to put it back but in a small text box. Buy how would putting this up on wordpress change anything. If I wanted to I certainly could make the text box bigger so it wouldn't scroll but then I would have a very long page and that is what people from here said they didn't like. Everyone from here said use more pictures with little blurbs of info but I would rather be on page one with the text box on top and get 30 to 50 hits a day then get ride of it be on page 3 and get no hits a day.

I don't want to sound like a jerk but almost every time I ask people how my site looks I get a different group of people telling me the same thing the group said many months ago even though the people who told me the same thing liked all my changes and said everything looks great after I made the changes. I know things change on the internet fast but not that fast. I can't keep changing what my site looks like based on a different group of people every 6 months. The big companies haven't changed the way they look for the past 5 years and I look at them all the time. Also if you looked at what the sites of some of my competition looks like you wouldn't believe they could ever be on page one with a site like that. I am looking for answers good answers not the ones I am getting.
