Brilliant! A clear example of longstanding copywriting wisdom being ignored.

The ads are clever. They're funny. Clever, funny ads in copywriting are seen as a no-no. Something copywriters are taught to avoid.

What makes them work? I think it's because of the images and the tightly-worded trojan horse benefit.

I've always told my fellow IMer's if the want to know the future in marketing online, follow the porn industry. Some of the sharpest marketers/webmasters that I have ever met where in the porn industry. They really stay ahead of things. I remember when the porn industry was doing memberships sites about 6-7 before "regular" IMer's started doing them.

That article was a great read. The advertisements seemed really witty.

I'm still fairly new to this whole wonderful world, but I wonder if the ads had a greater impact due to being drastically different than everything else that normally appears on those sites.

The article has a good point that most of the advertisements usually found there involve more of the same, so would suddenly seeing an ad with a sandwich or pizza draw the eye, because it is something completely unexpected?

An owner of a dog bed company sent me this article yesterday. I think his ads wouldn't be accepted for the same reason the monkey didn't make the cut. :-)

Rather than selling something directly, I think this blog article was geared toward creating buzz... awesome that it has so many tweets while most of the rest of the blog only has 1 per message (that of the author I bet.)

That blog post was also picked by CNBC and the theme of companies advertising on porn sites was the seventh article down on Drudge Report today.

Porn site advertising: Company promotes itself on adult sites

Not bad exposure from one well-written blog post.
