What to charge for a Coupon Flyer

I have developed this coupon flyer for a client in auto service niche
Dropbox Flyer link I would like to know what would be a reasonable charge for this layout.

It took me three hours to design it. The owner plans to mail it out to his direct mail list. This is in McAllen Texas Market. I live halfway between Mexico border and the border checkpoints that are 30 miles north of border. Soooo this market is comfortable with 1995 technology.

Tex, you want to charge so you are reasonably compensated for your time...

...and so you'll get more work from this client.

After you learn this client's offers and services, your future work will go faster.

Every time I get a new client, I size them up as one-off projects or are they good enough managers to where I can get projects for years.

Based on that assessment is how I charge. For instance, I'll charge them more if I don't want to work for them again.

If I do want to work for them again, I may charge the same, but throw in something extra like a news release or anything to put me in good favor.

  • Tex,

You do know you are using the best ever advertising in the known universe.

(you've created your own unique advertising medium, with the circulation you want. Producing high sales and profits at a fraction of the cost of press, radio, tv, yellow pages or a site on the inter web)

    I would ...

Highlight the FREE things at the top of the Flyer (be good if it was a free comprehensive car "health check" with a great "reason why" this is so important).

Then have all the discounts (with a "book by date" to speed up the response).

Give the Flyer a touch of "personality" it's not just a coupon sheet. It's a personal message from the garage owner. Who proudly runs the best, experienced and friendliest garage in Texas. The one that always has the customers best interests at heart.

Mention his and the mechanics names. They are "petrol heads" who treat the customers car with the greatest love and care (handle what might be the biggest objection "we'll never suggest repairs that aren't necessary").

    Now to answer your question...

Charge a set fee based on your time and effort ensuring you make a dash of money.

Charge a set fee plus a % of sales from the Flyer.

Charge sfa (or a nominal set up cost) and a higher % on sales from the Flyer (you have got to trust the client like a blood brother before you do this).

You want to become the clients "Go to Flyer marketing aficionado" so you can run campaigns on a monthly basis.

The customers start to enjoy getting them. And get all forlorn if they don't (they phone the garage and say "Are you Ok, it's just that we didn't get this months Flyer with the special "offers").

And you can go ultra high tech by using Postcards which add that extra touch of class and quality to the promotions and boost the response even further.

From experience I know that Flyers or Postcards can keep a garage fully booked with delighted customers - there's need for anything else.

Steve and OOTW thank you for your quality observations. This is one of my first clients in McAllen. He is doing pay per call from a site I built that generated 29 calls in 45 days for him. Beginning work with him was Craigslist ads graphic-based that pulled in customers. He came to me asking about using his mailing list to generate comebacks. Two months ago I planted that seed in conversation saying that the mail list can produce comebacks.
I have not produced flyers before this one so was curious to find the going rate for them. Concerning personality, I have developed branding for him that does exactly the point of personal honest auto service. It is our intent to mix up the offers and send them out regularly. Slowly plan to add SMS to the mix. But I will build on the "each technician is a petrol head". They certainly know lots more about pistons than promotion. You should have seen him grin when a YT video was on front page in 3 days. It is dancing now and on page two for search "auto repair McAllen TX". He also has in his hands review postcards with QR codes that take the customer to the review sites. The review card job was a quick one that I bartered a water pump job for the review cards.

Who cares how long it took you to design?

Charge him % based on it's performance. If it works it won't matter if it took you 3 minutes, 3 months or 3 years.

Then you can do similar things for other folk in the niche and charge commensurate with results, not for being an hourly worker.
