I want to split test a few copies of a real estate landing page...I'm using a pop up lead capture. Can anyone recommend some tips/strategies/copy recommendations to the current page.

Everything from button text, button color, pop up lead capture, anything that you think might help would be appreciated. Going to test a few ideas so if anyone has anything that might help it would be appreciated!

  • How much traffic are you expecting?

If it's a low volume, you won't be able to effectively split test in a reasonable amount of time.

As for your landing page, don't expect many opt-ins. When the user clicks the "Click To See Homes" button, he'll feel tricked by the pop-up.

    • I doubt many people will get to that point.
  • I'm split testing 100 PPC hits which I know isn't much but I figure it will give me a good idea. I'm hoping to test maybe 2-3 so the cost to test doesn't go through the roof
  • Imagine your website is real estate office, Number 22 Google street. The prospect looks through the window (your landing page) likes the look of it and decides to come in and look at some of the properties for sale.

The second they open the door...you physically restrain them from entering and say "I need your name, telephone number and email address before you can come in"

How likely is it they will change their mind and visit the friendlier shop next door?

That's exactly what your pop up is doing to your visitors.
  • Yea I get it but it has to be better than giving visitors an option to opt in on the home page. I mean isn't that what Groupon does? Gets you to put in their e-mail before they let you in
  • You need a attention getting headline when you come on the page and a sub head will definitely help .
You have 5 seconds to get them to decide to stay on your page otherwise they are gone...

    Curiosity is your biggest ally...
  • I think more people run away when they see an opt in form rather than clicking and seeing a pop up. In my opinion you already have their attention when it pops up and they want to see more.

I see pop ups everywhere now which is why I'm trying to incorporate it and it just makes sense to me.

Yes some will leave but I think far more will leave if they see it first. When I go to a site and I click something and it pops up I either exit out or I say screw it I'm halfway there I' want to see what this site has.

The problem is how do I get them to want it that bad!

    • The last thing I want to do is give my number to a real estate agent. Why? Because in my experience once they've got your number they call and call and call. So once I see the pop up asking for my details I'm going to close your website.

Like Alex said, it feels manipulative to click on the link expecting to see homes and then be asked to enter my information. In an industry that is commonly viewed as being untrustworthy, do you really want to try and deceive people right off the bat?

I think if you have an opt-in on your landing page at least it's in plain sight, and if you offer a free report or some kind of gift they are more likely to sign up plus they don't feel that they've been tricked.

At the moment your page tells me nothing about you and gives me no reason to sign up.

  • Is finding home listings that difficult? There are free sources everywhere.

If you want someone to fork over their contact info, you need to offer more.

Why should they choose your listings over the free paper at the gas station? Find a way to position your offer that gives a unique benefit.
  • Who looks at a paper with listings nowadays lol.

The pop up isn't my question, the pop up is there because it works better than having a capture just sitting there.

Like you guys said there are tons of sites with home listings why enter info into the site. And for those that hate the pop up more people are going to instantly leave when they see it rather not seeing it. At least with the pop up when they get to the pop up they are half way committed.

Almost every real estate site uses this pop up method now for a reason.

SO please without worrying so much about the pop up, I guess my question is what could I give or say to want users to search homes on the site?

I mean do people really want an ebook on home values. Or tips on how to buy a house? I want people to WANT to put their info in and keep going.

I can't say I have the best home prices because that would just be flat out lie.
  • Add the personal human element. Your name. Your photo. Your credentials. Maybe even a personal note to the reader in handwritten font.

It looks too generic and stock-photo-ish right now.

  • I don't get it,
why should I hand over my email to be spammed,
when I can see all the listings elsewhere without that crap?

    That's a buyers perception.

That's the hurdle you are facing.

And the opportunity to remove it.

    Best,
    Ewen

    • Here is a simple solution to your opt in. Make a ebook that has all of the propriety you have for sale listed in it and offer it to them. Hey would like a list of all of out propriety if so then please enter your email so we can send you your free copy today. You should have some photo listings up to when they click on it they are presented with the details.
    • That's the problem I'm having. I'm actually getting a decent amount of opt ins but if I figured out a way to get people to want to submit their info I think it would shoot through the roof.
